Position Summary

Assists skilled workers in performing their assigned duties. May be assigned to one specific task or may be transferred from task to task as a project progresses to completion. Tasks are generally unskilled manual duties.

"The Transformer Shop Utility Worker position follows the line of progression defined in the 2024 LOP Chart. The position has the opportunity to progress from Utility Worker to Utility Worker CDL to Utility Man Test I to Utility Man Test II. Progression to Utility Man Test I can occur upon obtaining a CDL permit and with the demonstration of proficiency in the assigned job tasks."

Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Operate Forklifts and move equipment for PCB sampling and disposal as set forth as indicated in the Transformer Shop EOP's and SOP's.
  • Perform field inspections for accuracy on E-spill notifications and the disposal of waste performed by field personnel.
  • Ability to test new and failed equipment using a handheld meter and pulling PCB samples for oil and surface contacted debris.
  • Use a computer to enter data into a database as it pertains to PCB analytical and nameplate information.
  • Does other similar work, which may be called upon to perform, and any other work as necessary or to satisfactorily complete the job to which has been assigned
  • Ability to work call duty to include holidays, nights, and weekends as well as ability to work unscheduled overtime when needed. Ability to work an adjusted schedule as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of use, care, and safe handling of tools, equipment, and materials commonly used in the trade.
  • Ability to observe and report equipment status.
  • Knowledge of inspection methods and techniques for strict compliance with regulations and applicable codes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Capable of working independently and prioritizing tasks in order to meet the needs of the unit and its customers.
  • Ability to use overhead cranes to move material and equipment within the buildings.
  • Ability to assist Journeymen as needed to complete the job.
  • Uses equipment in a manner which subjects it to normal wear and tear only.
  • Assists in the installation of customer electrical and natural gas services.
  • Performs job duties in a safety conscious manner that reflects safety in work habits and working on projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.
