Position Summary:

Level of Research Associate 1, 2 or 3 will be determined based on the candidate's years of experience.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator in the Department of Surgery, the incumbent in this position plans, organizes, and conducts highly independent research in tissue engineering and more specifically the development of functional microvascular networks using adult human stem
cells.

The predominant experimental approaches involve human adult mesenchymal stem cell isolation from surgical I specimens, stem cell culture and characterization, seeding of microscale fabricated devices and advanced cell culture substrates, precision transfer of cell sheets, and molecular & histopathologic characterization and real-time microscopic imaging and videography of the final networks.

The networks will additionally be implanted into small animal models under survival surgery conditions (rodent husbandry, small animal anesthesia, microsurgery, post-anesthetic care and monitoring.)

Incumbent is often responsible for maintaining the efficient operation of the laboratory.

Assists Principal Investigator with summarization, analysis and organization of date for publication; may assist with preparation of grant application; assists and/or teaches graduate students and others rotating through the lab; often responsible for supervision and training of junior research personnel.

Functions independently on complex and specialized duties.

Required Education:
Bachelor's in Basic or health science or related field

Required Experience:
Laboratory; RA - Zero; RA- Three; RA- Five

RA2 – Master's degree with less than two years of experience
RA3 – Master's degree with two or more years of experience OR Phd OR MD is acceptable
