As the AVP, Finance Operations, you will lead and oversee the financial operations for Nationwide Financial. This role is pivotal in driving financial efficiency, ensuring regulatory compliance, and implementing strategic initiatives that support the company's financial goals. You will lead a team and work closely with senior leadership to provide insights and recommendations, optimize financial processes, and maintain the financial health of the broad and diverse set of businesses including Annuities, Individual and Group Life Insurance, and Retirement Plans.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement financial strategies to support the company's business objectives. Leads all financial operations functions for Variable Annuity, Retirement Plans and Variable Life businesses, including daily trading, pricing/valuation, separate account shareholder maintenance, and portfolio reconciliation with partner mutual funds. Oversees activities related to fund management and administration including fund performance information provided to external and internal customers. Leads team responsible for mutual fund revenue billing and collection process and interfaces with administration systems. Oversees of daily cash disbursements of participant checks, wires, and ACHs. Develop, implement, integrate, maintain and administer all financial operations systems, which includes project support for large business build investments that impact financial operations. Manage business client relationships and service expectations by defining and reporting on volume metrics, reducing non-standard processes, and applying continuous process improvements and technology to efficiently execute functions. Manage liquidity, market, fraud, and other risks associated with variable account trading and cash disbursements by adhering to processes and controls. Maintain documentation of control processes and evaluation of identified controls on a quarterly basis in compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and with NASD Rule 3013. Coordinate with internal and external auditors on operational audits. Directs associate management, including performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow and organizational planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to VP, PM&A and Financial Operations – Financial Services. Leads a team of 3 direct reports and 50 or more indirects.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in such areas of Business Administration, Accounting or Management Information Systems preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) Series 6 / 26 / 27 preferred.

Experience: Typically, 10 or more years relevant experience in finance, accounting, and/or operations, combined with strong life and retirement savings business acumen.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proven knowledge of GAAP and/or statutory accounting, tax and systems principles. Insurance accounting principles, practices and procedures. Demonstrated knowledge of insurance regulatory requirements. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly and effectively. Proven ability to develop and implement financial strategies aligned with business goals. Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams. Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and Human Resource Business Partner.
