Description

DLBA Naval Architects, a subdivision of Gibbs & Cox, is looking for a candidate with a versatile mix of practical experience in naval architecture, as well as skills in both experimental and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). As part of a diverse team, you will offer support in naval architecture for the design of recreational and commercial vessels, and various U.S. Government crafts ranging from 20' to 250' in size. The ideal candidate should be a seasoned Naval Architect with extensive design expertise and a profound understanding of the design process.

This position at DLBA Naval Architects, under the umbrella of Gibbs & Cox, offers a dynamic opportunity to work on a variety of vessel designs, ranging from recreational to commercial and government crafts. Being part of a multidisciplinary team provides valuable exposure and experience in the field of naval architecture.

Primary Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Act as a technical leader within a diverse engineering design team.
  • Lead and mentor staff in generating precise engineering calculations using fundamental principles, and devising solutions to encountered challenges.
  • Guide staff in boat and craft design, offering solutions through the application of existing skills, techniques, and company protocols.
  • Assess, choose, and apply standard engineering methods, procedures, and criteria for designing and modifying boats and crafts.
  • Introduce new approaches to design and engineering challenges when existing standards prove inadequate.
  • Execute engineering tasks as delegated by leadership with precision and efficiency.
  • Regularly engage with current and prospective clients to effectively communicate technical information.
  • Draft proposals and create technical content for both commercial and government opportunities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory, and candidates must be capable of acquiring a security clearance.
  • M.S. Degree or higher in Naval Architecture.
  • 5-10 Years of relevant experience in small craft design.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of naval architecture and a deep understanding of principles, practices, and related technologies.
  • Solid familiarity with specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard CAD software, such as AutoCAD and Rhino.
  • Advanced CFD skills in naval architectural analysis.
  • Expertise in experimental hydrodynamics, including planning and conducting tow tank tests.
  • Experience with GHS hydrostatics and stability software.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and time management skills, essential for collaboration and team leadership.

Desired Qualifications:

  • M.Sc. Degree or Ph.D. in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer's License.
  • Shipyard Experience.
