MIRIAM'S KITCHEN MISSION

Miriam's Kitchen works to end chronic homelessness in Washington, DC. We advocate for permanent supportive housing as a long-term solution, while meeting short-term needs by providing healthy meals and high-quality social services to individuals who are chronically homeless.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position will support the senior director by developing and ensuring that program policies and practices are aligned with the philosophy, values, procedures, and policies of the agency (housing first, harm reduction, Medicaid service delivery, and case management best practices). They will collaborate with the senior director to identify program needs, participate in program development, and ensure compliance with audits and program regulations. They will work with program managers to promote PSH team culture and develop and implement systems of quality control. The Assistant Director of Housing, Program Management will work together with the team to provide support services to chronically homeless individuals in permanent supportive housing to help residents maintain stable housing and achieve the highest level of self-sufficiency and quality of life possible. They will oversee and develop Resident Services programming for PSH residents.

The position will provide community-based direct support services to a primary caseload of up to 5 residents who were formerly chronically homeless, and support the Senior Director in the day-to-day administrative management of the department as it relates to program quality as a Medicaid services provider. They will work together with the team to provide support services to chronically homeless individuals in permanent supportive housing to help residents maintain stable housing and achieve the highest level of self-sufficiency and quality of life possible.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Service Delivery

  • Support the Senior Director in monitoring service delivery and the maintenance of ethical and exemplary therapeutic case management services and client relations.
  • Support the Senior Director in the day-to-day administrative management of the department, with particular responsibility for the program's compliance to Medicaid standards and requirements.
  • Crisis management: collaborate with the senior managers to respond to issues and complex client and staff emergencies as they arise; provide support and consultation to case managers; follow up to determine reliability of supports.
  • Identify needs, promote resident satisfaction, and promote client-driven program development by organizing feedback surveys and program needs assessments and participating in the management of client complaints and grievances.
Supervising
  • Provide individual and group supervision on a weekly basis to the Clinical Supervisor, case managers, and other relevant staff as determined by the Senior Director of Housing. Provide weekly supervision to each supervisee along with in-the-field support as needed.
  • Work to promote an inclusive and diverse PSH team including consideration for race, ethnicity, neurodiversity, gender and sexual orientation, and various forms of relevant lived experience.
  • Plan and facilitate regular facilitative and consultative spaces for PSH managers and team members, including processing and reflection spaces, group supervision, and case conferencing.
Administrative and Reporting
  • Work with the Senior Director of Housing to ensure that program policies and decisions comply with the philosophy, values, procedures, and policies of the agency.
Assist the Senior Director in the administrative functions of the department, including:
  • Represent Miriam's Kitchen in city-wide meetings regarding the continuum of care for homeless services in DC as pertains to program quality, development, and delivery.
  • Program planning and development of and reporting on PSH program quality and outcomes. Support data management and collection of outcome measures.
  • Programmatic, documentation, and privacy compliance requirements as a Medicaid-funded service provider.
  • Assist in the hiring, interview, and onboarding processes for staff.
  • Act as a liaison with landlords and other community stakeholders to promote the success of residents and the PSH program.
  • Participate actively in regular supervision, team meetings, and other all-staff meetings and events.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Direct Client Work
  • Develop trusting relationships with Permanent Supportive Housing residents. Engage residents to collaboratively develop goals and service plans for housing, mental health, substance abuse, health, education, income, employment, and other goal areas. Support residents' work toward goals through individually tailored services and by facilitating effective connections to community services and resources. Examples of support services include successful tenancy problem-solving, independent living skill-building, connection to public benefits and employment assistance, money management support, and connection to medical, mental health, and substance abuse services.
  • Provide outreach, case management, crisis support, advocacy, and other needed services to residents, primarily in the community and residents' homes, but in any setting necessary, including streets, shelters, jails, hospitals, program office, etc.
Requirements

  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.

  • Experience working in services for homelessness, mental health, or substance abuse.

  • Strong interest in and commitment to ending chronic homelessness in DC
  • An understanding of the structural and systemic causes of homelessness
  • Comfort working with a diverse population with a variety of backgrounds and lived experiences
REQUIREMENTS

Experience:
  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, or a related human services field.
  • Two years of experience providing direct case management services is required.
  • At least two year of supervisory experience is required.
  • Experience working in services for homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, or HIV/AIDS preferred.
  • Enthusiastic about Housing First approach.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
  • Ability to work as a member of a culturally diverse team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong sense of boundaries.
  • Valid driver's license and ownership of a motor vehicle.

  • Valid driver's license and ownership of a motor vehicle and able to provide proof of valid insurance.

  • Able to handle walking/standing 50% of the time on a daily basis.
