Responsibilities

  • Prepares treatment room following prescribed procedures and protocols.
  • Prepares patients for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting, seating, and draping them.
  • Provides information to patients and staff by addressing questions and requests.
  • Sterilizes and delivers instruments to the treatment area; positions instruments for dentist's access; suctions; passes instruments.
  • Selects, mixes, and places materials on instruments and in the patient's mouth.
  • Exposes and develops radiographic studies, pours, trims, and polishes study casts to provide diagnostic information.
  • Fabricates temporary restorations; cleans and polishes removable appliances to maintain patient appearance and masticatory ability.
  • Assists dentist in managing dental and medical emergencies, maintains CPR certification, emergency drug and oxygen supply, and emergency telephone directory.
  • Educates patients on oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative instructions.
  • Documents dental care services by charting in patient records.
  • Ensures patient confidentiality and operational security by maintaining information privacy.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment by adhering to procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols to protect patients and employees.
  • Uses equipment and supplies efficiently to conserve dental resources and achieve job outcomes.
  • Stays up-to-date with professional knowledge by attending workshops, reading publications, building networks, and engaging in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team success by fulfilling related tasks as required.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • X-ray license
  • Experience in Dental Assisting or completion of a formal Dental Assistant program
