Clinical Medical Assistant/Cast Technician

Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Management:

  • Greet patients and families, prepare them for examinations.
  • Room patients in a timely manner and ensure xrays are completed.
  • Manage patient care flow and inform physicians when patients are ready to be seen.

Clinical Care:

  • Obtain vital signs, prepare laboratory specimens, and perform inoffice lab tests.
  • Perform suture and staple removal, wound care, and dressing changes.
  • Assist with aspirations and prepare injections.
  • Apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints, and braces.
  • Measure and fit patients for orthopedic devices.
  • Provide instructions on the use of crutches, walkers, and other aids.

Patient Documentation and EMR Management:

  • Maintain and review patient EMRs, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Post test and exam results, follow up on cultures, labs, and outside testing.
  • Document services performed in the EMR system.

Assistance During Procedures:

  • Assist surgeon during treatments, examinations, and procedures.
  • Prepare equipment and rooms for treatments and testing.
  • Set up surgical fields and drape patients for surgical procedures.

Medication and Supply Management:

  • Ensure supplies are stored safely and check expiration dates monthly.
  • Order medical supplies and manage inventory, including orthopedic equipment and DME.
  • Clean and stock patient exam and treatment rooms.

Administrative Tasks:

  • Arrange diagnostic testing and referrals to outside facilities.
  • Schedule followup appointments and consultations with specialists.
  • Handle phone calls, schedule patients, and document calls according to guidelines.
  • Write standard admitting and preop instructions for surgery patients.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy, physiology, orthopedic terminology, and aseptic techniques.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate professionally with patients and staff.

Work Schedule:

  • Fulltime position.
  • Monday to Friday

Preferred Skills:

  • At least 12 years of experience as a Medical Assistant, Cast Tech or Orthopedic, or military technical medic training.
  • Experience with EMR systems.
  • Advanced understanding of anatomical structures and their relationships.
  • Knowledge of fracture healing, rupture, strain, sprain healing, and complications.
  • Effective communication and manual dexterity skills.

Pay:
From $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
