Job Description

Starting wage: $13.00 per hour worked.
Location: MSU Bakery

As a Student Driver you will be responsible to receive, issue, deliver, store, and inventory foodstuffs, supplies, equipment and materials for the MSU Bakers Division of Student Life and Engagement.

Typical Duties May Include:

•Operate motor vehicles such as a van, on and off campus.

•Timely and accurate delivery of food products to on- and off-campus locations, as well as off-campus pick up of special order items using single unit motor vehicle.

•Issue stock and/or deliver stock by motor vehicle to requisitioning unit upon proper receipt of requisition slip or production order.

•Load, unload, collect, and deliver food/stock, materials, and/or equipment by hand.

•Arrange and secure food/stock, utilizing restraining devices such as ropes, binder chains, and protecting pads.

•Maximize and arrange loads to minimize delivery distance and time.

•Inspect orders/items for damage and completeness, prior to leaving for deliveries.

•Assure that delivered goods are properly received.

•Perform miscellaneous messenger service, such as delivering records and memoranda to specified departments.

•Check mechanical and safety items such as lights, wheel chocks, mirrors, tires, brakes, and wipers prior to operation.

•Maintain motor vehicle fluid levels by checking gas, oil, water, and battery; refilling as necessary.

•Prepare accident/incident reports if involved in issues with vehicle.

•Clean equipment and areas of work within the unit and vehicle.

Related Duties:
Perform related duties as assigned including, but not necessarily limited to:

•Assist in the receiving, storing, and issuing of equipment, materials, merchandise, or tools in a stockroom or storeroom.

Required Qualifications

•Be enrolled as a student at Michigan State University (during academic year)

Possession of a valid driver license.
- Applicant must have good driving record for a motor vehicle record check.


•Working knowledge and demonstrated ability to satisfactorily operate a single unit motor vehicle

•Demonstrated commitment to outstanding customer service, practicing DOSE at all times

•Must be a motivated self-starter, and able to complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision

•Must be detail oriented, accurate, and highly organized

•Must be dependable and reliable, with excellent attendance

•Must have good communication skills (written and verbal) and be respectful, especially when working with a diverse population.

•Demonstrated ability to work with staff at all levels.

•Ability to amicably receive constructive direction from manager/supervisor, and to professionally, quickly and efficiently implement same to improve service.

•Takes responsibility for self and work

•Basic computer use knowledge

•Employment contingent on successful completion/results of background check and vehicle driver record

•Frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds.
  • Must be available to work on site June to August 2024.

Physical Demands

•Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds

•Walking/standing/lifting 75-90% of shift

•Must be able to climb in and out of vehicle, as well as climb/descend stairs while making deliveries

Work Hours

•Varied, during Bakery operations hours of 4am to 5pm Monday-Friday, and 5am to 2pm Sunday.

•Student shifts start as early as 4am, with the latest START time being 12:30pm.

•You will be scheduled every other Sunday.

•Domestic students may work up to 29 hours per week during the school year.

•International students may work up to 19 hours per week during the school year.

•All shifts will be scheduled per needs of the operation; your shifts might not total maximum allowed hours listed above
