Position Summary
The Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting the school principal in the planning, organization,
administration, and management of a school's operation. Position assists with supervising staff,
creating a safe environment, and other duties associated with the successful operation of the school to
foster a positive learning environment.
As part of your duties, you will be assigned the following responsibilities:

Instructional Guidance and Leadership

  • Provides leadership for the development and management of a comprehensive program of
student services and have a well-balanced student activities program.

  • Co-facilitates the school's growth target as defined by the state's accountability program or
shows progress in reaching that target alongside the principal.

  • Serves as an instructional leader for assigned grade levels; Is fully knowledgeable about
instruction, testing, and accountability.

  • Sets and maintains high expectations for student learning and behavior.
  • Directs the utilization of available services and resources according to clearly established
priorities and needs.

  • Assists the principal in the overall administration and management of the elementary school.
  • Collaborates with the principal in strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Assist and support TAP Leadership Team meetings, Cluster meetings, RTI, Testing and
Assessment systems and programming.

  • Manage curricula orders and scheduling through vendors and third parties.
  • Manage and monitor data systems (i.e. PowerSchool, MAP, ExactPath, Courseware, Google
shared drive).
Staff Development and Effectiveness
Supervises and evaluates all personnel in the assigned grade level(s).
Performs classroom observations and conferences with teachers (informal/formal) to improve
the instructional program utilizing Louisiana Educator Rubric.
Observes employee performance, records observations and conducts evaluation conferences
with staff.
Provides professional development for the instructional staff and other assigned personnel
regarding school security, the Rights and Responsibilities Handbook, classroom management,
effective discipline strategies, and conferencing techniques.
Defines expectations for staff performance with regards to instructional strategies, classroom
management and student outcomes.
Fosters collegiality and team building among all staff members. Encourages their active
involvement in the decision-making process.
Works alongside the Director of Academic Data in preparing data reports for assessments,
attendance, and discipline for school and district leadership team(s) as well as monthly board
meetings.

Community Relations
Builds and sustains a common vision for school improvement with staff. Directs planning
activities and puts programs in place with staff to ensure attainment of school's mission;
Facilitates the positive relationships needed to ensure student success with parents, guardians
and community members.
Attends and supervises after-school, evening, and weekend school sponsored events and
activities as assigned.
Oversee after-school activities by serving as the administrator on duty for the after-school clubs
and activities.

Operational Responsibilities
Enforces appropriate Federal Regulations, State Statutes, School Board Policies and
administrative directives.
Maintains appropriate and accurate data on all students and school personnel in order to
remain compliant with local, state, and federal requirements.
Ensures that all decisions are made with the best interests of students as the foremost
consideration.
Maintains a safe, orderly campus for students and adults.
Establishes and maintains a positive school climate.
Holds all students and adults accountable for treating others with dignity and respect.
Qualifications
Master's degree in Education or similar area of study required
Valid Louisiana teaching certificate with Louisiana Certification as Principal/Leadership
endorsement listed on certificate
Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years successful teaching experience
Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of previous experience in school administration or
experience in central office administration

arms to lifts objects; turn, raise, and lower head.

Strength:
Ability to lift, push, pull and/ or carry objects which weigh as much as 5 or more pounds on a
frequent basis. Incumbents may be required to physically restrain parties involved in a conflict.

Environmental Requirements:
Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively
with others; work independently; work indoors.

Mental Requirements:
Ability to read, write, understand interpret and apply information at a
moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school
proficiency level; judgment and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow
verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank task in order of importance; copy
compare compile, compile and coordinate information and records. Understand how to manage stress.
