Job Description


The Manager of Content Strategy reports to the Chief Marketing Communications Officer within the office of Marketing Communications, which resides in the Advancement, Vocation, Alumni Engagement Division under the Vice President of AVAE.

The Manager of Content supervises the social media specialist, visual media specialist, and managing editor of Wheaton magazine.

This position develops and executes owned media and content strategies that support integrated marketing plans for the College and oversees the production of Wheaton magazine, particularly vendor and budgetary management.

The Manager of ContentStrategy has direct budgetary management and oversight for executing content strategies, including the magazine publication.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provides leadership and execution for editorial, multimedia, and social media content
Sources compelling stories and content ideas for print magazine, the web, news, and social media.

Manages multiple full-time staff members: recruits, supervises, trains, optimizes workflows for, provides leadership and vision for, and coaches team members.

Creates, communicates, and maintains editorial style guidelines.
Understands and reports performance metrics, and conducts evaluations of strategies, making improvement recommendations to the Chief Marketing Communications Officer.
Establishes and implements editorial strategies, processes, policies, and content for bi-annual print magazine and ongoing online publication.
Supervises all freelance writers, proofreaders, illustrators, photographers, designers, and interns, providing editorial and creative direction. Recruits, selects, orients, trains, and coaches freelance writers and editors; communicates job expectations; plans, monitors, and appraises job results. Manages photographers. Manages magazine designers.
Writes, proofreads, and edits copy.
Coordinates print production, including quality assurance, prompt completion of mailing, delivery, and fulfillment.
Serves as official representative of the publication internally and externally.
Leads magazine editorial board meetings in conjunction with managing editor.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required, preferably with a focus in multimedia, English, writing, communications, or related fields.
At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in journalism and marketing. Content or editorial management required.
Supervision and performance management
Developing and managing budgets
Superior editorial judgment
Highly creative, exceptional writing and editing abilities, and an eye for good graphic design
Demonstrated ability to manage multifaceted projects, meeting deadlines with thorough planning and implementation
A leader and team player with strong interpersonal skills
Data-driven, strategic, and creative thinking
Understanding of and commitment to evangelical Christian tradition, theology, and values
Wheaton alumnus or alumna preferred

Physical Requirements


The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 50 pounds.
