Responsibilities
The Role of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is vital as they perform ultrasound tests for patients in the Maternal Fetal Medicine setting, independently and as part of the healthcare team to offer complete care to expectant mothers.
- Accompany patients and families to and from examination rooms.
- Clearly explain the examination procedures to patients and families to ensure cooperation and accurate results.
- Obtain anatomical, pathological, and/or physiological data for physician interpretation.
- Maintain patient records, process sonographic data, and document observations during procedures for physician review.
- Generate preliminary reports for physician appraisal.
- Collaborate with physicians during procedures like amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling.
- Maintain ultrasound equipment functionality.
- Identify and address equipment malfunctions promptly.
- Manage inventory of ultrasound supplies.
- Adhere to laboratory protocols for obtaining various types of images.
- Comply with universal precautions and safety standards.
- Participate in safety and security training activities.
- Provide coverage for Sonographer absences when necessary.
- Perform additional assigned duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of six months experience as an ultrasound technician in OB/GYN and/or MFM setting preferred.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficient in operating ultrasound equipment.
- Ability to remain composed and act effectively in emergencies.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited sonography program with a degree in ultrasonography or equivalent.
- ARDMS OB/GYN certified or eligible.
- Completion of a program in OB/GYN ultrasonography.
- CPR certification required.
- American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) certification or eligibility.
- Continuing education credits to maintain certification.
