Position Overview:

The Obstetric Ultrasound Specialist is responsible for conducting diagnostic ultrasound examinations for patients in the Maternal Fetal Medicine environment. This role requires collaboration with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for expectant mothers.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Guide patients and their families to and from the examination area.
  • Provide clear explanations of the procedure to patients and families to ensure understanding and cooperation.
  • Collect anatomical, pathological, and physiological data for physician interpretation.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and document sonographic findings for physician review.
  • Prepare preliminary reports for physician evaluation.
  • Collaborate with physicians to review ultrasound studies.
  • Assist physicians in procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling.
  • Ensure accurate coding for services rendered.
  • Oversee the proper functioning of ultrasound equipment and address any malfunctions.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms.
  • Manage inventory of ultrasound supplies effectively.
  • Adhere to laboratory protocols for obtaining various imaging modalities.
  • Comply with universal safety precautions and OSHA regulations.
  • Participate in coverage for Sonographer absences as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Preferred minimum of six months experience in an ultrasound technician role within OB/GYN or MFM settings.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in operating ultrasound machinery.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited sonography program with a focus on ultrasonography.
  • ARDMS certification in OB/GYN or eligibility for certification.
  • Fetal echo certification or eligibility to obtain within 12 months of hire; experience preferred but training will be provided.
  • Completion of a program in OB/GYN ultrasonography.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Completion of either two years in an Allied Health Educational Program with one year of on-the-job training in ultrasonography, or an approved ultrasonography educational program.
  • Maintain or be eligible for certification as an American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS).
  • Provide evidence of continuing education credits to meet accreditation standards.
