In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing a team of maintenance and trades professionals who are dedicated to the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment, as well as the construction of forest roads and facilities. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The primary objective of this role is to safeguard the valuable forest resources and ensure the proper upkeep of State Forest facilities within the Jersey Mills Maintenance Division of the Tiadaghton State Forest. The employee in this position takes on various responsibilities including preparing, planning, and organizing work schedules for subordinates to effectively complete tasks related to maintaining State Forest facilities and promoting forest regeneration. These tasks encompass a wide range of activities such as maintaining motorized and non-motorized trails, conducting earthen road maintenance, installing and maintaining information signs, establishing and preserving state forest boundary lines, constructing and maintaining buildings, as well as managing equipment and supplies.

In addition to these duties, the employee also collaborates closely with the District Forester to plan and develop significant improvement projects, including recreational initiatives and capital road projects within the state forest. This involves preparing detailed sketches for projects, assessing the required manpower, and determining the necessary equipment and supplies. Regular discussions with the District Forester are held to provide updates on project progress and address any challenges or issues that may arise. By fulfilling these responsibilities, the employee plays a crucial role in the preservation and enhancement of the forest resources and facilities within the Tiadaghton State Forest.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Tuesday - Thursday, with 30-minute lunch; 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Friday, with 30-minute lunch; Monday off
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of semi-skilled maintenance or construction experience which includes one year in the operation of small and medium size construction or agricultural equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • This position requires possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License.
