The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Business and Financial Services Division-Fiscal Bureau.
The Accounts Payable Section performs technical accounting services for the department. This area provides administrative and technical support in the following aspects: recording financial activity, ensuring accounting activity follows generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as well as appropriate federal and state rules, regulations, and laws.
The Accounts Payable Supervisor supervises the Operations and Contract Payment Section within the bureau, responsible for issuing payments for amounts owed by the department and its facilities to service providers, clients, vendors, and employees (non-wage payments). The position is responsible for establishing and maintaining control of accounting records and reports that are complex in nature and involve a variety of funding techniques and controls, under the guidance of the Accounts Payable Manager.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity- Thorough knowledge of procedures, theories, and concepts of general governmental accounting.
- Knowledge and ability to work with the Statewide Accounting, Budget, and Human Resource System (SABHRS) and the State Procurement Card.
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and report on complex accounting data from SABHRS.
- Intermediate level skills in the use of Excel.
- Considerable knowledge of group dynamics, communication and team building, supervisory techniques, and personnel policies.
- Thorough knowledge of principles of accounting, record maintenance, and general office and procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of interpersonal relationship skills, diplomacy, and general rapport with a wide variety of people.
- Ability to train and supervise staff effectively; to analyze and implement usage of various computer systems (SABHRS, AWACS Financial System, AWACS Contract System, ISERV Travel, PERQS & SFSL) and equipment.
- Ability to develop and implement accounting policies and practices; to utilize computer software including Excel, Word, SABHRS, and AWACS modules.
- Ability to create and maintain professional working relationships with a variety of professional and nonprofessional staff, contractors, responsible parties, IRS, and other agencies.
- Meet minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance.
- 3-4 years of relevant work experience.
- Four years of progressively responsible accounting experience with at least two years supervisory experience is required.
- Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
