Job Description

BASIC PURPOSE:
Prepares patients and performs all technical aspects of EKG testing. Performs EKG as needed by the department/facility. Assists with EKG reporting processing and all department functions.

Prepares adult and pediatric patients for EKG test; obtains patient history and any contraindications, explains testing techniques, applies electrodes; performs EKG testing as needed by department and facility; maintains safety and infection control measures

Prepares patients for various cardiovascular (stress) testing, using protocol specific electrode application

Coordinates and prepares EKG for interpretation by cardiologist; communicates with cardiologist on all aspects of testing and references required

Attends departmental and quality assurance meetings according to departmental needs; maintains accurate departmental records and files for EKG; assists in departmental performance improvement efforts; maintains clinical competencies and credentials and participates in accreditation efforts as required by governing bodies

Serves as a preceptor to new employees

Proficient in Epic and MUSE

Prepares completed studies for physician interpretation; performs EKG studies as requested by the physician and prepares completed studies for scanning and physician interpretation

Check all hospital EKG machines daily to ensure they are stocked and cleaned after each patient. Monitor EKG equipment and report any malfunctions.

MINIMUM EDUCATION

Required Minimum Education:
High School Diploma/or GED

Preferred Education: 2 year/Associate Degree

Specialty/Major:
Allied Health

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS (must be non-expired/active unless otherwise stated):

Required:
BLS certification by end of orientation period.
