We are currently hiring a Full-Time Patient Care Technician at UPMC Passavant to support our Orthopedic Unit in McCandless.
Recognized as a Center of Excellence in Joint Replacement Surgery, this unit stands out for its top-notch surgical facilities and orthopedic surgeons with outstanding outcomes, low complication rates, and excellent patient experience.


The Patient Care Technician is a key part of the UPMC Inpatient Patient Care Support Career Ladder, offering opportunities for growth and advancement.

Title and salary will be based on education and patient care experience.


Our Full-Time PCTs usually work three 12-hour rotating shifts per week to cover a range of shifts. Prior experience in patient care is highly preferred for candidates applying.

Purpose:


The Patient Care Technician provides routine patient care and supports department services following established policies and procedures. They may be guided by a nurse or physician to ensure the highest quality patient care is consistently provided.

Must perform UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities including ADLs, point of care testing, weights, vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitoring, and more. Additionally, they will handle simple dressings, EKGs, specimen collections, and more. All competencies must be achieved.

  • Provides feedback to the RN and reports patient status changes.
  • Instructs patients and families under RN direction.
  • Manages patient restraints according to protocols.
  • Adheres to safety policies and procedures.
  • Documents accurately in medical records.
  • Completes work in a timely manner and follows competencies/behaviors.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Educational/Knowledge Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have 1 year of experience, OR be enrolled in a healthcare program with clinical rotation, OR possess a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.
  • Completion of UPMC patient care technician class.
  • Completion of basic information system training.
  • Preferably, experience with microcomputers.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • EMT or Paramedic status or enrollment preferred.
  • Limited medication access restricted to nurse distribution.

Licensure/Certification/Clearances:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • CPR certification as per AHA standards within 30 days of hire
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
