PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To assist Kitchen Manager on daily kitchen responsibilities which includes, but is not limited to, cooking, food preparation, stocking food items, cleaning & maintenance.


SCHEDULE:
Full time

  • Monday to Thursday 10am to 6:30pm or Monday to Thursday 10am to 6:30pm, Fridays 10am to 2:30pm.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience of a minimum of 2 years in preparing meals.
  • Current sanitation certification from the Chicago Department of Public Health and compliance with
state, local, and regulatory agencies in relation to food service.

  • Experience cooking for a large number of people.
  • Ability to safely use of all food service equipment.
  • Ability to maintain kitchen sanitation and safety standards.
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Ability to work both independently and as an active team member.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences.
  • Ability to maintain professional demeanor while exercising judgment and discretion in work.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, recipes, menus, warning labels, packing slips and supply orders.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Flexibility in scheduling and willingness to cover other shifts.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and goals of the Agency.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides nutritious meals to Youth and Staff while complying with all applicable sanitation, health and personal hygiene standards as well as department policy and procedure.
  • Follow set menus and recipes while also being creative to use food items on hand and minimize waste.
  • Organize and stock kitchen and supply room.
  • Works cooperatively and professionally with all Agency staff.
  • Assist with setup, service and cleanup of food productions.
  • Use, clean and store kitchen equipment properly and following all protocol and procedure.
  • Assist with safety and training procedure in handling of food service equipment.
  • Complete tasks assigned by Supervisor of Kitchen Operations and Head Chef.
  • Cooperate in the scheduled cleaning of specific areas.
  • Serve all youth and staff with respect and in timely manner.
  • Cooperate with Career Resources team on meeting the needs of the Youth Employees.
