Job Description

Performs routine clerical tasks related to laboratory.

Job Responsibility

  • Receives specimens from internal/external suppliers.May retrieve specimens from other hospital departments, as required.
  • Accessions patient specimens into laboratory computer system.Enters patient demographics and relevant information into laboratory computer system.
  • Enters/scans units of blood and/or blood components into department computer system.
  • Triages specimen for handling or release.Centrifuges specimens, as required.
  • Processes specimen using designated equipment.
  • Performs designated equipment maintenance including cleaning, emptying waste, and replenishing supplies, as required.
  • Maintains inventory of reagents and other supplies.Places orders for supplies through department computer system.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding specimen handling, test results, patient preparation, problem specimens, etc.
  • Operates the pneumatic tube system, as needed.
  • Prepares, distributes and files reports, as requested.
  • Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required. Coursework in general science/mathematics, required.
  • Prior laboratory/client service experience, preferred.
  • Ability to operate office and minor laboratory equipment, required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions.
