A School Mental Health Counselor in Los Angeles typically plays a crucial role in supporting the mental health and well-being of students within a school setting.


Position Title: School Mental Health Counselor

Location: Los Angeles, California

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:
1.

Individual Counseling:
Provide confidential counseling services to students dealing with various mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, behavioral problems, etc.

2.

Group Counseling:
Conduct group therapy sessions addressing mon issues affecting students, such as social skills development, anger management, self-esteem building, etc.

3.

Crisis Intervention:
Offer immediate support and intervention for students experiencing crises or emergencies, including but not limited to suicide ideation, self-harm, abuse, or other urgent situations.

4.

Assessment and Referral:
Assess students mental health needs and make appropriate referrals to outside agencies or professionals for specialized services when necessary.

5.

Consultation:
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to address students mental health concerns within the school munity. Offer guidance and remendations on creating a supportive environment for students.

6.

Prevention Programs:
Develop and implement mental health awareness and prevention programs for students, staff, and parents to promote early intervention and mental wellness.

7.

Documentation:
Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and interventions in pliance with legal and ethical standards.

8.

Professional Development:
Stay updated on best practices, research, and trends in school counseling and mental health to continually enhance knowledge and skills.

Qualifications:
1. Masters degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
2. Licensure or certification as a School Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of California.
3. Experience working with children and adolescents in a school or clinical setting.
4. Strong munication, interpersonal, and crisis intervention skills.
5. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders including students, families, educators, and munity members.
6. Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines related to school counseling and mental health services.
