Description of Business Analyst role in LabNet Project (BPD)

Introduction

Defining the role, tasks, and requisites for the Business Analyst (BA) involved in the LabNet Project. The project's goal is to establish a secure and separate network infrastructure to boost data security and reduce unauthorized access to crucial experiments, minimizing operational disruptions for BPD.

Goals

Main objectives of the BA:
  • Collaborate with solution architect, network engineers, and project team to devise and execute a secure network infrastructure following best practices and AZ security standards
  • Facilitate communication among stakeholders, technical teams, and PM to ensure thorough comprehension of project objectives and demands
Roles

The Business Analyst's duties comprise:
  • Collect and document comprehensive business requirements for the secure network solution, covering functional and non-functional specs
  • Cooperate closely with technical teams like network engineers and security specialists to translate business needs into precise technical requirements aligning with the proposed solution
  • Create and maintain project documentation including detailed use cases and user stories to lay the groundwork for system design and development
  • Collaborate with AZ Test Team on test plans, test cases, and involvement in testing to ensure efficient implementation and validation of the network solution
  • Develop and update thorough documentation like process flows, system requirements, and use cases for clarity and alignment during the project
  • Identify and resolve potential risks and issues that may hinder project progress and success
  • Provide routine status updates to project stakeholders and escalate significant issues or delays as necessary
Deliverables include:

Expected deliverables for the Business Analyst in this project:
  • Review and amend as needed the business requirements document detailing specific needs and expectations for the secure network
  • Detailed technical requirements specification, linking business requirements to technical solutions ensuring comprehensive implementation
  • Use cases and user stories guiding system design and development, offering clear directions to the technical teams
  • Requirement traceability matrix to confirm all business needs are adequately addressed in the final solution
  • Thorough test plans and cases validating functionality, security, and performance of the network solution, aiding in smooth deployment and risk mitigation
  • Regular status reports and project updates to keep stakeholders informed of progress, milestones achieved, and any modifications to the project plan
Assumptions and Limits:

Successful completion of the LabNet Project depends on certain assumptions and constraints:
  • Access to required resources such as subject matter experts and technical specialists for support in requirements gathering and analysis
  • Availability of the BA for meetings, discussions, and collaborations with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
  • Adherence to project schedules and budgets
  • Cooperation from all involved parties including stakeholders, technical teams, and project manager to nurture a cooperative and goal-centric project environment
