Job Title: Quantitative UX Research Lead

Location: Brooklyn, NY (3 days in office)
Job Type: Contract, 35 hours per week
Job Summary:
The Digital Service in charge of meeting the needs of New Yorkers is searching for a Quantitative UX Research Lead to oversee user research for public-facing projects within the Office and other agencies and departments. Projects include the MyCity Workforce Portal, strategy and redesign, digital properties, and related work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Understand the challenges faced by New Yorkers through both qualitative and quantitative user research to identify opportunities for the City of New York to address those needs by creating hypotheses, prototypes, and running experiments
  • Develop and implement a User Experience Research toolkit that outlines the optimal testing methods for various product phases (discovery, definition, testing, and monitoring)
  • Plan, collect, and analyze data-driven insights via survey design, usability testing, experimentation, and A/B and multivariate testing
  • Summarize well-documented research findings to provide meaningful and actionable insights to stakeholders
  • Manage multiple streams of UX research simultaneously

MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated experience in quantitative user experience research, showcasing successful projects involving survey design, competitive analysis, heuristic reviews, user interviews, field studies, usability testing, experimentation, and A/B testing
  • Proficiency in analyzing and presenting behavioral data from Google Analytics and user testing data
  • Thorough understanding of different research methods, knowing when and how to apply them during each product phase
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on data accuracy and employing statistically sound methodologies for result analysis
  • Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and concrete recommendations for enhancing user experience
  • Experience in unbiased recruiting of users matching specific demographic and behavioral profiles
  • Encourage innovative approaches that prioritize the best digital experience for New Yorkers, rooted in strategy, data, analytics, and competitive research
  • Inspire partners and colleagues to embrace human-centered design, data-driven research methods, and evidence-based solutions
  • Pioneered quantitative research initiatives within a team or organization previously

DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate should have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Data Science, Statistics)
  • Over 10 years of experience conducting quantitative user research across all product design phases
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret patterns and trends accurately
  • Familiarity with statistical principles for data evaluation
  • Expertise in methodologies to avoid research pitfalls such as overgeneralization, biased methodologies, and misunderstandings of data sources
  • Worked in multidisciplinary teams to deliver user-focused products and services that align with organizational objectives
  • Proficient in managing user research from planning to execution with a deep understanding of research methodologies
  • Effective communication skills, capable of explaining design concepts and strategies clearly to partners and cross-functional teams
  • Champions diversity, equity, and inclusion in design practices and past projects
