Join the Cantex team as a **Cook/Assistant Chef** where your role is crucial in ensuring that patient meals are expertly prepared, cooked, and served according to specified menus promptly. This position is responsible for upholding the highest standards of food preparation in a clean and safe environment, adhering to all regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Current state Food Manager Certificate.
  • Experience in quality food preparation and production in long-term care or healthcare settings is preferred.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English.
Essential Functions:
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of food items specified in menus.
  • Follow food production schedules, minimize waste, and ensure proper storage of food items.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of all equipment, work areas, and storage spaces.
  • Prepare special meals and snacks as required, following directives from the Nutrition Services Director/Chef.
  • Identify and address safety concerns in food service areas.
  • Assist in managing inventory and report shortages to the Nutrition Services Director.
  • Adhere to established food preparation policies, practices, and standards.
  • Maintain detailed food temperature logs.
  • Participate in training and supervising new Nutrition Services staff, when assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and policies related to food service operations.
  • Check and ensure the attractiveness, flavor, and temperature of served trays.
  • Support recipe standardization and portion control.
  • Inspect incoming food supplies and assist in their storage.
  • Keep food storage areas organized and maintain correct storage procedures.
  • Assist in tray card preparation when necessary.
  • Act as a Team Leader and Role Model.
  • Understand and enforce abuse prevention policies as per Cantex Continuing Care Network.
  • Attend regular in-service sessions and comply with Patient Care Management Systems.
  • Take responsibility for patient/resident safety.
  • Perform other assigned duties and tasks.
