About the Department


The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology studies how biomolecules function and interact to drive the complex, diverse, and adaptive behaviors of living systems.

Our focus is on biological mechanisms described at the atomic level. We are highly collaborative and often employ multiple approaches to address otherwise intractable questions.

We have particular strengths in membrane proteins and RNA biochemistry and are pioneers in all areas of biophysics, structural biology, biochemistry, and protein engineering and design.

This at-will position is wholly or partially funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the contract.

Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds and satisfactory job performance.

Job Summary

The Research Professional will lead their own search project with instruction, guidance, and direction from the PI. They will perform research, including experimental design, experiments, data analysis and interpretation for the specific project. They are expected to write manuscript independently and assist with proposal writing.

This position will also be involved in other collaborative projects with other research groups as assigned and will mentor undergraduate students or high school students for short term as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Performs experiments and collects and analyzes data. Participates in the promotion of a research project.
  • Participates in the preparation and writing of grant applications and reports, and co-authors/authors scientific research manuscripts. Provides peer review of grant applications and scientific manuscripts.
  • Collaborates on development of new research projects with academic and community-based organizations.
  • May present work at scientific meetings.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.

Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Experience:

  • Bench work experience including molecular cloning, biochemical experimental skills (such as electrophoresis, RT-qPCR, Western blots).
  • Experience on fluorescence microscopy.
  • Experience with RNA-seq experience or other omics analysis.
  • Basic data analysis skills, including the use of MATLAB, R, Excel, etc. Candidates with previous analysis skills in RNA-seq data or imaging data.
  • Writing and presentation skills.

  • Collaborative as a team worker.
Working Conditions

  • Wet lab space.
  • Microscope room including two fluorescence microscopes and data analysis workstation.
  • Cell culture room.
  • Weekend/Evening hours: Depending on the experimental schedules and urgent support needed under certain circumstances, personnel in this position may need to work in evening hours or weekend.
