Job Summary:

The Engineer, Bridge Design at CN is tasked with creating designs and overseeing design projects for bridges across CN's network according to internal policies and AREMA guidelines.

This role, considered a Professional Engineer position, requires expertise in structural engineering principles, company policies, as well as Bridges and Structures management procedures.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate consultant design assignments.
  • Design railway bridges.
  • Prepare preliminary and detailed designs of highway and railway bridge structures.
  • Provide costing information and resolve queries during bridge construction.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and project schedules to minimize disruptions.
  • Offer engineering support and training to staff members and field forces.
  • Prepare fabrication specifications and tender documents.
  • Handle outsourced service contracts and invoicing.
Safety:
  • Verify compliance with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Conduct audits of bridge inspection reports.
  • Participate in construction safety audits.
Training and Development:
  • Participate in field visits to familiarize with the Network and B&S inventory.
  • Assist in the development of junior design engineers.
  • Ensure all required training is completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain licensure as a Professional Engineer.
Working Conditions:

The role involves standard office conditions with the occasional need for on-site visits and field work. The ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines is crucial.

Available for some regional travel and occasional work beyond regular hours, including weekends.

Requirements:
  • Minimum 3 years of General Engineering experience with 2 years in bridge design.
  • Experience with AREMA guidelines or similar structural design codes.
  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer Licence (PE or P.Eng).
