Job Title: Surgical First Assistant
- Summary: The First Assistant assists the surgeon during surgical procedures.
- Focus/Purpose: Certified and Licensed Surgical First Assistants (SEA) play a crucial role in the surgical team by providing assistance in various aspects of surgery to ensure smooth operations.
- Requirements: Current Certified Nurse of the Operating Room (CNOR) or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification preferred. Completion of an approved first assisting course and relevant certification (CRNFA or CFA) also preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, with Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- Educational Requirements: Must hold current certification as a Surgical First Assistant (CSFA, CSA, SA, C, CSA, or RNFA) or a license as a Mid-level provider or Medical provider (PA, C, AR p, MD, or DO).
- Responsibilities:
- Perform all duties of a surgical technologist when necessary and appropriately trained.
- Assist in preparing the operating room and equipment for procedures.
- Participate in Anesthesia time out procedures.
- Aid in patient positioning and preparation.
- Assist in maintaining hemostasis, tissue retraction, and wound closure.
- Follow surgeon's directives in using surgical instruments and equipment such as electrocautery, stapling devices, and robotics.
- Help in post-operative care and patient transfer.
- Undertake any other duties essential to the surgical process as directed by the surgeon.
- Work Type: Full Time
