Overview: Working under the guidance of the Charge Nurse, this role involves providing psychiatric care to adult, adolescent, or child patients by implementing milieu treatment strategies tailored to individual needs and therapeutic objectives while ensuring safe and quality patient care.
Main Responsibilities:
- Act as a milieu therapist for assigned patients, collaborating with the nurse therapist, conducting initial psychological assessments, and delivering individual counseling to support treatment goals.
- Assess and evaluate patient mental status, maintain therapeutic relationships, and contribute to treatment planning and diagnosis.
- Provide supportive care to patients through conversation, recreational activities, and daily living assistance while promoting appropriate interactions among patients.
- Document patient information in charts, report mental status and interactions, and offer support and education to family members and outside agencies as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in psychology or related field preferred.
- Bilingual proficiency (Spanish/English) desirable.
- BLS certification required.
Working Conditions:
- Work in a patient care environment with occasional exposure to combative patients or involvement in moving/lifting patients.
- Regular standing and walking required during duties.
