This role can be completely remote, Hybrid, or in the office. We will require the person to work West Coast hours.

Purpose

The Senior Database Administrator role requires a service-oriented mentality and a high sense of ownership of problems and assigned tasks. Focuses on managing and resolving issues in alignment with service level agreements. Establishes and maintains communication with customers to keep them updated with status of their requests, initiating and performing changes on production systems and proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with system engineers, application developers and business analysts to help achieve a stable environment that meets current and future business objectives
  • Assist in disaster recovery planning, testing and implementation if necessary
  • Provide an on-going assessment of database performance and the identification of problem areas, using various tools, queries, DMV's, etc., in order to provide the highest reliability and performance possibleMonitor SQL Agent scheduled jobs;
  • Monitor SQL database size and growth;
  • Monitor SQL instance space\cpu\memory usage;
  • Maintain documentation about the company's database environment;
  • Ensure all database servers are backed up in a way that meets the business's Recovery Point Objectives (RPO);
  • Test backups to ensure we can meet the business' Recovery Time Objectives (RTO);
  • Restore production backups to test environments, ensuring proper security levels are maintained for data and for user access
  • Install and configure new SQL Servers
  • Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages as they occur
  • Deploy and execute database change scripts as provided by developers and business analysts
  • Provide SQL query help to developers and business analysts
  • Ensure that new database code meets company standards for readability, reliability, and performance
  • When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including hardware configuration changes, SQL configuration changes, or index/query changes
  • Develop and deploy SSIS packages as needed for data movement
  • Support SSRS administrators and develop simple SSRS reports for users
  • Experience with SQL Security and Auditing Best Practices
  • Occasional after hours support and weekend work required

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-7 years in IT operations with strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Minimum 5 years of Microsoft SQL Server experience
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills and ability to handle multiple projects and able to work in teams or individually

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS Degree in one of the following subject areas: Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Technology or related field
  • ITIL/Agile dev-ops background
  • Usage of the following technologies: ServiceNow, SQL Sentry, Database Replication tools
