Carolina PRG has partnered with a leading provider of debt and equity capital to the commercial finance industry. This is a rare opportunity for a Big 4/large public accounting firm Senior to join a growing financial services/fund investment company as their Controller.

The Controller will work closely with the VP of Finance and will be responsible for all accounting and reporting activities for private equity funds and their affiliated investment entities and the management company. In addition, the Controller will partner with the CFO and VP of Finance on all functions within the area of Finance and Accounting, including ensuring SEC registration and reporting compliance, software and process conversions, and one-off projects. The Controller candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration, a CPA, and 3-4 years of Big 4/large public accounting firm assurance experience in the capital investments, financial services, fund management, and/or REIT industries.

The Controllers primary responsibilities include:

  • Management of the Accounting Associate
  • Issue for all entities timely and complete quarterly GAAP financial statements and coordinate the preparation of annual reports.
  • Review AR, AP, GL entries
  • Routinely reconcile financials, bookings, and bank accounts
  • Maintain fund level tracking of various items including escrow accounts, deal costs, etc.
  • Prepare documentation needed for new entity formation, bank accounts, and escrow accounts as part of the deal cycle
  • Fund level accounting for funds and holding companies
  • Prepare Investor allocations and capital account statements
  • Prepare capital call and distribution calculations, sources/uses of cash, allocations, and investor notices
  • Create and maintain distribution waterfall (carried interest) models with applicable fund terms
  • Prepare financial statements, note disclosures, and supporting schedules
  • Create financial reporting based on both ad-hoc and routine requests

The following qualifications are desired:

  • BS Degree in Accounting or Finance AND an active CPA license
  • 3-4 years of Big 4/large public accounting firm experience in Assurance
  • Advanced knowledge and a high degree of proficiency in Excel.
  • Solid experience in GAAP accounting, internal controls, and financial reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience interfacing with external audit teams to complete annual audit and comply with all reporting and filing requirements.
  • Experience working with multiple entities and juggling multiple tasks is desirable.
  • Self-motivated and directed, good problem-solving skills.
