Work type: Non-Tenure Line (Research), University Medical Line, University Tenure Line
Location: Stanford University
Categories: School of Medicine

The Division of Gastroenterology in the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University seeks a researcher in pancreatic disorders to join the Division as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor in the University Tenure Line, University Medical Line, or the Non-Tenure Line (Research). We are particularly interested in candidates who have an MD, MD/PhD, or PhD (or equivalent degree).

  • The predominant criterion for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment to research and teaching.
  • The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.
  • The major criterion for appointment for faculty in the Non-tenure Line (Research) is evidence of high-level performance as a researcher for whose special knowledge a programmatic need exists.

Faculty rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The successful applicant should have an established or emerging track record in the field of pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, diabetes, pancreatic insufficiency, or pancreas development and has a vision to partner with physicians and scientists at Stanford to make breakthroughs in focused areas in this space.

Stanford University is one of the world’s leading biomedical research universities. Our culture and investment collaboration is evidenced by many interdisciplinary institutes that span school boundaries to foster new ideas and innovative research including CheM-H (Chemistry, Engineering & Medicine for Human Health), Stanford Bio-X (intersecting bioscience with engineering, computer science, and other fields), the Stanford Diabetes Research Core, the Stanford Center for Clinical and Translational Research and Education (Spectrum), the Stanford Institute for Immunity, Transplantation, and Infection (which houses the Center for Human Microbiome Studies), and the Stanford Human Immune Monitoring Center. Opportunities exist to collaborate with Stanford investigators at the forefront of innovation in broad areas that are relevant to immunology and pancreatology, such as cell biology, data science, and multiomics profiling.

We expect the successful candidate to serve as a member of the Pediatric, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition Division at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health with responsibilities for research and teaching related to pancreas immunology. S/he will join a highly multidisciplinary group that leads nationally recognized programs in gastroenterology (including pancreatology), hepatology (including liver transplantation), and nutrition. The Pediatric Gastroenterology Program at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health has more than doubled within the last half decade and is currently ranked in the top 13 programs nationally by U.S. News and World Report.

Applications will be reviewed and accepted until the position is filled.

Stanford University is one of the world’s leading research universities. It is known for its entrepreneurial character, drawn from the legacy of its founders, Jane and Leland Stanford, and its relationship to Silicon Valley. The Department of Pediatrics, with over 400 pediatricians and pediatric subspecialties, is committed to advancing the health of infants, children, and adolescents through innovative medical care, cutting edge research, training, and advocacy. Ranked among the top in the nation by US News and World Report, the department attracts researchers, clinicians, and trainees from around the world.

The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition in the Department of Pediatrics is currently ranked in the top 14 programs nationally by U.S. News and World Report and is in a major growth phase, led by Division Chief Dr. Sohail Z Husain, MD. The shared mission of the Division is to heal children with digestive disease through innovation, and its ambitious 10-year vision is to serve as the premier regional provider of pediatric GI care and to emerge as a global leader in pediatric GI research and education and a destination site for highly recognized programs of excellence.
