The Speech and Social Neuroscience Laboratory headed by Daniel Abrams, Ph.D., in collaboration with the Stanford Cognitive and Systems Neuroscience Laboratory (PI: Vinod Menon, Ph.D.) within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University is seeking a full-time Autism and Neuroscience Assistant Research Coordinator to perform administrative support duties related to the collection of clinical data and/or the coordination of clinical studies. Work will span multiple current studies exploring brain function underlying social and language functioning in children with autism spectrum disorder and adults with Alzheimer's Disease, in addition to brain changes after social skills intervention for adolescents with autism spectrum disorder.
The Speech and Social Neuroscience Laboratory aims to understand how the brain enables us to form and maintain social connections with one another through vocal communication, and why some clinical populations, including children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and individuals with Alzheimer's Disease (AD) struggle in this area. Our research integrates multimodal brain imaging techniques, behavioral measures of speech perception and comprehension, and social, cognitive, and clinical assays to identify brain mechanisms underlying social and communication function and dysfunction.
The Autism and Neuroscience Assistant Research Coordinator candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with our interdisciplinary team including researchers from multiple scientific and engineering disciplines, including cognitive neuroscience, psychology, psychiatry, neurology, bioinformatics, computer science, electrical engineering, and biomedical engineering. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to brain imaging studies of cognitive and social function and dysfunction, development, and learning disabilities. The successful candidate will participate in all aspects of research in the lab.
Due to the nature of the studies, the ideal candidate would be someone who can provide a two-year commitment to the lab. The candidate must be an organized, natural problem solver, have strong communication skills, and thrive in team environments. The successful candidate will work under supervision of the principal investigator and/or study coordinator/supervisor.
Duties include:
* Schedule and/or call subjects for appointments; contact participants with reminders or other requirements.
* Prepare, distribute, and process questionnaires.
* Administer and score neuropsychological and behavioral assessments.
* Perform clerical duties in the preparation of regulatory documents. Maintain all forms and documents, including consent forms and master subject logs. File all appropriate correspondence.
* Assist with the screening, recruiting, and obtaining consent of study participants. Review medical records and/or perform telephone or in-person interviews to gather data, as needed.
* Assist in acquisition and analysis of functional and structural brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) data.
* Administer standard study questionnaires and tests, score test measurements and questionnaires, and code data for computer entry. Perform quantitative review of forms, tests, and other measurements for completeness and accuracy.
* Extract data from source documents for research studies as directed. Collect data and complete case report forms.
* Perform basic measurements and tests on patients according to protocol, such as obtaining vital signs and performing phlebotomy and EKG, after appropriate training/certification. Collect study specimens according to protocol.
* Order and maintain equipment and supplies.
* Process study compensation payments and thank you letters to subjects upon completion of trial activities. Assist with post-study activities, as needed.
* Participate in monitoring visits and regulatory audits.
* Collect and manage the integrity of patient and laboratory data for clinical research projects through our REDCap database.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* BA/BS in Psychology, Speech, Hearing, Communication Sciences, Human Biology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, or related areas.
* Previous research experience in speech, language, or cognitive neuroscience.
* Previous experience acquiring fMRI or EEG brain imaging data or administering and scoring neuropsychological assessments.
* Previous experience working with children with autism spectrum disorder in a clinical, educational, and/or research setting.
* Ability and desire to work well with older adults and with autistic children.
* Ability to commit to a minimum of 2 years.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Two-year college degree and one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
General knowledge of medical terminology.
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:
Working toward certification(s) to perform basic patient measurements and tests, such as phlebotomy and EKG.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
* Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat and use fine light/fine grasping.
* Occasionally sit, reach above shoulders, perform desk based computer tasks, use a telephone and write by hand, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
* Rarely kneel, crawl, climb ladders, grasp forcefully, sort and file paperwork or parts, rarely lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh 40 pounds or more.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The expected pay range for this position is $25.48 to $31.25 per hour. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
