Overview:The Director of Development for Parents & Families (DODPF) will lead a strategic, imaginative, and comprehensive parent giving program that focuses on increasing gift revenue and giving participation rates from parents and family prospects as well as their corporations, foundations, and agencies. The DODPF will discover, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of parent and/or family prospects, manage the parent prospect assignments within our school-based model, as well as use measurable data points (may include dollars raised individual/team, individual/team parent visits, etc.) to ensure engagement of top prospects to increase leadership and major gifts from the parents’ community.   • Execute a comprehensive parent giving program that increases the University’s fundraising capacity from all parent constituencies: prospective and current parents, past parents, and legacy alumni parents.
  • Discover, cultivate, solicit, and steward a prospect pool of 150 parent and/or family prospects with the capacity to make leadership ($1,000+) and major gift ($25,000+) commitments.
  • Work closely with school-based gift officers, Deans of each School/College, as well as other key faculty and administrators to enhance parent and family gift revenue and involvement.
  • Lead the prospect coordination of parent prospects and assignments within our school-based model. This will include working with gift officers to ensure the parent prospects in their portfolios are moving through the moves management process.
  • Measure, monitor, & report on parent fundraising progress including prospect tracking and moves management as well as quantitative and qualitative benchmarks to measure results and to market the parent giving program through recognizable images, messages, and segmenting techniques.
  • Work on the growth of the Parents and Families Leadership Council and maintain a membership of 50 families actively participating in university philanthropic activities. This includes Summer Send-off Receptions and running bi-annual P&FL Council meetings.
  • Work independently and creatively to match donor interests (donor-centered philosophy) with institutional priorities – Academic Excellence & National Prominence – and develop fundraising proposals and negotiate and structure complex gifts with assistance from area experts on the Development & Alumni Affairs team.
  • Lead efforts to integrate parents into campaign activities and connect parents to impactful campaign giving opportunities
  • Be the lead for the campaign for all parent related activities that include fundraising, programming, and awards.
  • Partner with the office of the CXO, Admissions and Student Life, working collaboratively on events and opportunities to engage and involve parents and families on a regular basis. This includes Admitted Students Day, Orientation, Bobcat Weekend to name a few.
  • Attend campus activities such as development & alumni events, athletic competitions, school-based activities, lectures, performances, open houses, and academic symposiums to foster strong relationships with parents and students that result in philanthropic contributions.
  • Develop and implement an effective communication plan for attracting the interest, engagement, and investment of the parent and family community.
  • Provide input, direction, and assessment of parent events and programs on an annual basis in conjunction with the Associate Vice President for Development & Alumni Affairs.
  • Work closely with Annual Giving to develop giving strategies and giving days/campaigns for parents & families.
  • Perform specific tasks as assigned by the Associate Vice President for Development and Alumni Affairs.
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience may substitute for some of the above education
Qualifications:

3-5 years of related work experience, including major gifts or other direct fundraising experience

Experience with school/college/university-based parent fundraising programs

Able to build strong relationships with prospects, donors, volunteers, as well as faculty, staff, and administrators

Able to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality, be able to work effectively in high-tension situations and maintain composure under pressure, and have the capacity to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines

Able to travel extensively and attend University functions during and after normal business hours

Experience with desktop applications and Office 365

Experience with relational databases, including managing and tracking prospects

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Possess strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen carefully and respectfully and to speak with diplomacy and tact
