The Center to Support Excellence in Teaching (CSET), a research center within the Graduate School of Education at Stanford University, seeks a half-time Project Director to work closely with the faculty PI to lead CSETʼs work in support of the launch of a new K-12 international school in China. The new K-12 schoolʼs vision, mission, curriculum and instructional approaches are grounded in the practices and mindsets of Design Thinking, based on research by Stanford Graduate School of Education Professor (Teaching) Emerita Shelley Goldman.

Note: This position is a 1-year fixed term 60% FTE appointment that may be renewed based on performance and funding. This position is eligible for a remote work agreement and must be willing to travel to China as needed for the work as aligned with Stanford Travel policies. What You’ll Do:

Working in close partnership with the faculty PI, school founders and principal, and project team, the Project Director is responsible for translating the conceptual vision of the school to curriculum units and professional learning design, overseeing the development of the 9th and 10th grade units aligned with the instructional and curriculum frameworks, and leading the design process for creating online and in-person professional learning experiences for the 9th and 10th grade teachers and administrators at a new international school. These products will be grounded in research-backed best practices of teaching and learning as well as the innovation principles of design thinking.

We are seeking someone who is creative, highly collaborative, comfortable with iteration and ambiguity, and willing to work on a team. The Project Director will need documented skills of project management, curriculum design and evaluation, and high-level communication to work with multiple stakeholders from another culture. This person will also be skilled in designing and creating culturally-responsive professional learning experiences. The ideal candidate will be able to identify and think through necessary steps of a project, set deadlines, recruit staff and consultants as needed and in accordance with the budget, and hold self and others accountable to outcomes and deadlines.

Core Duties:

  • Working with the PI to develop and maintain a strong, trusting relationship with the school founders and the school leaders

  • Working with the faculty to PI to build a project team and create a common understanding of the work processes, quality, and deliverables

  • Managing the team to develop deliverables

  • Keeping the project moving forward, including calling team meetings, setting agendas, creating timelines, checking quality of products, and arranging for reviews of materials as needed.

  • Developing 1 curriculum unit

  • Leading the team to conceptualize, design, and facilitate a professional learning experience that includes an intensive institute and an instructional coaching plan

  • Infusing the core practices of design thinking into the instructional and curriculum frameworks, and professional learning experiences.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Advanced degrees may be required for some programs. For jobs with financial responsibilities, experience managing a budget and developing financial plans.

  • Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources.

  • Excellent oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.

  • Ability to oversee and direct staff.

  • Basic knowledge of managing budgets and developing financial plans.

Preferred Education:

  • A Master’s degree in education, doctorate preferred

  • At least three years of secondary teaching experience

  • Prior experience leading a team and managing a project

  • Prior experience developing curriculum

  • Prior experience designing and implementing high-quality teacher professional learning experiences

  • Prior international teaching experience a plus

  • Prior experience launching an international school a plus

  • Prior experience coaching educators a plus

The expected pay range for this remote position is $77,000 to $130,000 per annum. The actual pay will be pro-rated based on the 60% FTE. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
