Stanford University was selected to "lead a regionally diverse consortium of universities in Mexico and Canada — including seven Minority Serving Institutions — to decarbonize and improve the resiliency of the electric power system". This consortium comprises 16 universities and 4 national labs, with a significant federal R&D investment of $20M over three years. This effort will "help states, tribes, and regions develop the data, modeling tools, workforce, and methods needed to implement programs to improve grid resiliency, establish decarbonization goals, and prioritize investments to achieve those goals. It will also be critical to addressing cross-border grid dependencies and electrical interconnections". (see: )

This project, called an Equitable, Affordable & Resilient Nationwide Energy System Transition (EARNEST), is recruiting a full-time Managing Director. The position will be with the Department of Energy Science and Engineering at Stanford University. • Organize weekly meetings with Stanford's research team, including defining the agenda and structure and identifying participants.
  • Lead the quarterly reporting process as required by the DOE. Request information from investigators, track progress and develop the quarterly draft reports for the U.S. Department of Energy.
  • Perform quantitative energy research within the tasks and goals of the Consortium. Co-author papers based on the research with PIs as well as independently. Examples of collaborative research include a peer review paper on how to define resilience in the context of the electric grid.
  • Assist the Consortium in the development of research and decision-making tools specified in the Consortium tasks, for example, real time emissions and damages factors tools for the US grid.
  • Foster and facilitate partnerships with states, tribes & traditionally underrepresented groups.
  • Ensure the outputs from EARNEST are publicly disseminated in EARNEST's website and via other dissemination media.
