Job Description: Special Education Teacher

Location: Ozark, Missouri

Position Type: Full-Time

Overview: The Ozark School District is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Special Education Teacher to join our team. The selected candidate will be responsible for providing personalized instruction to students with special needs, helping them achieve their academic and personal goals. This role involves close collaboration with fellow teachers, parents, and support staff to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement tailored individualized education programs (IEPs) for each student.
  • Provide direct instruction and support in a variety of educational settings, including inclusive classrooms and resource rooms.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate students diverse learning needs and disabilities.
  • Assess and track student progress, making necessary adjustments to instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, and other professionals.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress and IEP goals.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, IEPs, and other required documentation.
  • Participate in professional development to stay informed about current best practices in special education.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Valid Missouri teaching certificate in Special Education (K-12).
  • Thorough understanding of state and federal regulations regarding special education.
  • Experience in developing and implementing IEPs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of educators and support staff.
  • Previous experience working with students with various disabilities is preferred.

Licensure and Certification Requirements:

  • Missouri Initial Professional Certificate (IPC) or Continuous Professional Certificate (CPC) in Special Education.
  • Certification in Mild/Moderate Cross-Categorical Disabilities (K-12) or Severe Developmental Disabilities (K-12).
  • Any additional certifications required by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
  • Knowledge of behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and positive behavioral supports.
  • Training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or other specialized instructional techniques.
