Position Summary
Reporting to the Dean of Student Affairs, the newly created Director of Athletics is responsible for supervising and managing all college athletic programs and activities and day-to-day operations of the athletics office. Monitors student athletes' academic progress and promotes a culture that fosters the priority of academic achievement while protecting the integrity of all College athletic programs and building a sustainable tradition of athletics. Participates in regional, state, and national organizations to market the College's athletic programs, activities, and achievements. Collaborates with College faculty and staff on selected committees concerning athletics and College enrollment.
Summary of DutiesDirect all College intercollegiate athletic programs and activities and manage day-to-day operations of the Athletics Office, equipment, and facilities. Oversee and schedule college vans, equipment room, athletic training room, gymnasium, fields, courts, track, and fitness rooms. Prepare and manage the annual athletics budgets and monitor all athletic-related expenditures in a fiscally responsible manner.Ensure compliance with NJCAA, Region XIX, and GSAC eligibility regulations. Coordinate with other administrative departments; e.g., Admissions, IT, Registrar, and Financial Aid, to verify compliance with rules and regulations regarding student-athlete eligibility.Create and institute a well-developed risk management, safety, and supervision plan for all events, facilities, and activities.Serve as the critical athletic staff representative for the construction and maintenance of special projects related to athletic facilities.Develop and maintain an Athletic Department Strategic Plan that aligns with institutional strategic goals, the facilities master plan, Student Success Action Plan, DEI Action Plan, and the College-wide strategic plan.Provide an annual inventory of uniforms and equipment needs and maintain a replacement schedule.Develop a program of intramurals and club sports for HCCC students.Supervise and monitor each athletic team's fundraising efforts according to College policy.Ensure student and staff development by modeling and teaching the ideals of sporting behavior, professionalism, and holding people accountable during teachable moments. Ensure compliance with NJCAA rules by training and setting guidelines and/or policies for team coaching staff and student-athletes. Ensure coaches are well-trained, recruiting, and meeting the standards of a well-respected collegiate-level athletic program.Oversee the coordination and management of home athletic events, including appropriate event support staff who are onsite with sufficient supplies and equipment and ready to perform their duties. Act as the supervisor on site for home athletic events.Direct the planning, coordination, and management of special events and athletic banquets.Travel with athletic teams as needed; provide information about the team to representatives of the opponent's sports information office, including updating starting lineups.Monitor student athletes' academic progress and promote a culture that fosters the priority of academic achievement while protecting the integrity of all College athletic programs and the tradition of Hudson County Community College. Work closely with the Academic Advising Office and other student support resource offices to ensure student-athlete well-being and success.Collaborate to develop and implement policies, procedures, programs, and other methods designed to support and promote the College's goals for academic progress, retention, graduation, and transfer rates for student-athletes. Supervise all operational functions of the teams and support coordination of the use of athletics facilities by parties outside of the Athletics Office and the College.Coordinate use and monitor all sports information activities, including statistical reporting, web streaming, live stats, web pages, social media pages, and more. Ensure the department follows conference, regional, and national regulations and standards. Ensure compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, and policies related to athletics, including Title IX, student eligibility, recruitment, and sports safety.Maintain accurate records and generate reports on athletic programs, budgets, compliance, and student-athlete outcomes.Develop a set of core outcomes for the office, measure and track annual performance against objectives, prepare and submit yearly assessment reports to the designated office, and fully engage with the College's Outcomes Assessment Program.Act as performance manager for all direct reports, including managing day-to-day performance, producing and communicating written performance evaluations, approving requested time off, and other compliance points with Human Resources rules, regulations, and unit collective bargaining agreements.Attend all appropriate conference and regional meetings as required.Serve on key College committees where applicable.Perform additional tasks or duties assigned by the administration or other designated management.QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in sports administration/psychology, kinesiology, counseling, education, or related area.Minimum five years of professional athletic experience, including supervising staff, working with NJCAA regulations, budgeting, and management. Coaching experience preferred.General knowledge of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), Title IX eligibility, and compliance rules and regulations.Ability to work as part of a cross-functional team in an innovative environment.Proficiency in using data analysis tools and software to assess program effectiveness and outcomes.Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and meet deadlines.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation abilities.Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the student population and staff.Valid driver's license.Supplemental InformationHudson County Community College serves one of the most ethnically diverse and densely populated communities in the United States. Hudson County Community College has three campuses. The largest campus is located at the heart of Jersey City's Journal Square, approximately 20 minutes from New York City. The College has a North Hudson Campus in Union City, New Jersey, and an additional location at the Hudson County Schools of Technology in Secaucus, New Jersey.
