The Dean, Basic Needs and Student Care reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor, Student Wellbeing and Social Support reports and is responsible for providing effective leadership and administrative management for holistic care coordination and social support programs at Dallas College: developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating such programs; ensuring the delivery, organization and elevation of these programs are equitable; and ensuring that the department continues to align programs with the College in implementation with integrated approaches and services towards the achievement of student success and institutional goals.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong knowledge of current standards of college social service practices with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, and available resources in the field.
Maintain a deep understanding of key national trends and best practices in functional areas of reporting and ensure that units are on the cutting edge of student services and are engaged in continuous improvement to ensure that services are responsive to changing needs of students.
Be a highly collaborative leader with experience in a comparably complex college with a proven track record of enhancing quality, excellence, and student success programs and services.
Demonstrated experience working with student wellbeing and social support programs.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from the full range of diverse populations.
Knowledge and understanding of student development theory and programs.
Ability to identify, address, and collaborate with other leaders on solutions to barriers preventing a significant portion of our population from having a job that pays a living wage.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, complex ideas, and information to a variety of stakeholders/constituents within the Dallas College community network.

Minimum RequirementsMaster’s degree required (earned doctorate preferred) in higher education, counseling/student services or related field as confirmed by official transcripts.
Five (5) years of progressively responsible management and supervisory experience in one or more areas of student services
Three (3) years upper level administrative/supervisory experience in a community college/higher education environment
Proven experience in student crisis management and emergency response.
Previous experience working on student issues related to Title IX, specifically with respect to victim advocacy and education.
Demonstrated successful experience in strategic planning, fiscal management, resource allocation and personnel supervision.
Clinical Experience, Education or Expertise in Personal Counseling or Health Services is preferred.
Official transcripts are required.
Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred.

Key ResponsibilitiesProvide leadership and functional responsibility for the strategic planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of a multifaceted college-wide social services program and key performance measures for students’ emotional, and overall well-being.
In conjunction with the Associate Vice Chancellor, Student Wellbeing and Social Services, provide leadership for the division’s response to students of concern.
Monitor research and current behavioral trends affecting college students.
Assess and evaluate all related operations, policies, and programs to ensure mission compliance, student impact, and organizational effectiveness.
Ensure Dallas College Student Basic Needs and Community Connections has an integrated approach to housing and homelessness, food insecurity, wellness, prevention, education, and outreach.
Implement and leverage technology platforms to support the student care network.
Oversee Basic Needs Programs and Office of Student Care Coordination technology including but not limited to:
Maxient
Sales Force
CARE TEAM
Emergency Response Team
Guide and oversee campus-wide harm reduction programming, student success, and intervention strategies.
Support and advocate for students who experience crisis; intervene directly in highly sensitive cases involving critical threats to mind and body.
Develop co-curricular programming to reduce inappropriate behaviors and increase positive behaviors by students; anticipate, evaluate, and address changes in student needs and improve the student experience on campus.
Collaborate with community partners to support, develop, and promote initiatives, programming, and outreach directed toward students’ well-being.
Develop strategic collaborative partnerships with external and internal stakeholders to ensure strategic integration of holistic wellness programs, initiatives, and services.
Oversees the College CARE Teams.
Coordinate and facilitate monthly communication meetings with Student Success Leadership on assigned campus.
Maintains administrative oversight for the Basic Needs and Community Connections and Care Coordination budgets, monitors, and controls expenditures consistent with the College’s strategic priorities.
Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
