Job Title: Special Education Teacher

Location: Reading, Kansas

Position Overview:

Reading School District is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team. The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education, a commitment to student success, and a desire to create an inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, in collaboration with parents, general education teachers, and support staff.
  • Provide direct instruction to students with disabilities, using a variety of instructional strategies and technologies to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed to ensure student growth and achievement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, IEP goals, and services provided.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to update them on student progress and discuss educational goals.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, team meetings, and professional development opportunities as required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) Special Education Teacher certification or eligibility for certification through an alternative pathway.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and growth.
Required Licensure and Certifications:
  • State Licensure: Must hold or be eligible for a Kansas teaching license with a Special Education endorsement.
  • Special Education Certification: Must hold or be eligible for Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) Special Education Teacher certification.
