Department Summary

The College of Health and Public Service (HPS) at the University of North Texas, distinguished as one of the few Tier One research universities designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), prepares graduates to address diverse and complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities, and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public health, and urban design. We have seven academic departments with undergraduate and graduate programs, the Center for Public Management, the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, the UNT Work Inclusion and Supported Employment (UNT WISE) program, and a number of professional development and clinical training programs to facilitate careers to address a global society.

HPS students are trained to lead nonprofits, become educators, researchers and professionals who strengthen the diverse communities we serve, with thoughtful, inclusive, and equitable practices as audiologists, behavior analysts, city managers, emergency managers, health care administrators, public safety administrators, public health specialists, rehabilitation counselors, speech language pathologists, social workers, urban planners, and more.

Position Overview

The HPS Senior System Administrator is responsible for providing technical leadership and resource management; execution of upgrades, installations, and maintenance of servers and desktops; and software deployments for the College of Health and Public Service. Day-to-day functional management of IT services for HPS includes ensuring disaster recovery, business continuity, and customer satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in related field and five years' of related computing work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department.
  • Considerable knowledge of principles of computing and/or communications networks, and characteristics of computing hardware and software used in distributed environments.
  • Ability to supervise and train subordinates.
  • Ability to operate computer keyboards and to install computer hardware.
  • Ability to assimilate, retain and utilize technical and applications-oriented information.

Job Duties:

  • Participate in long term development of goals, plans, processes and procedures for technology implementation for HPS.
  • Management and supervision of part-time staff.
  • Install, monitor, and maintain Windows and Apple operating systems and infrastructure. Ensure network security to users and files. Ensure legal compliance with individual software application license agreements.
  • Install, monitor, and maintain backup systems.
  • Monitor network to prevent potential issues. Develop, maintain, and enhance network user interface. Monitor Rapid7 and CrowdStrike for HPS Faculty/staff devices.
  • Assist faculty/staff with hardware and software problems on desktops, laptops, tablets, devices. Troubleshoot technology issues. Provide analysis of systems, hardware and/software and advise course of action to meet HPS technology needs.
  • Plan, prepare and implement measures to ensure the security of user accounts, facilities, and equipment. Manage customer accounts through Active Directory. Ensure confidentiality and security of data.
  • Continually increase knowledge and skills in management, planning, network concepts and operating system software.
  • Serve as computing liaison between technical support staff and director of HPS IT Services; between HPS and other UNT network managers; and serve on technical taskforces and committees.
