Job Summary

Reporting to the Dean of Students and Student Engagement, Dallas College is seeking an Associate Dean of Student Rights and Responsibilities. This position will assume day-to-day oversight of the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. The incumbent will be an experienced and highly collaborative leader with a proven track record of excellence in enhancing awareness, education, and application of the student Code of Conduct. The Associate Dean will identify strategic priorities and develop plans for implementation and execution for student conduct in support of advancing the Dallas College vision, mission, and values. The Associate Dean will serve as the primary thought leader for administration and application of the Code of Conduct across the seven campuses.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understand national trends in higher education including Title IX, FERPA, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, anti-hazing legislation, the Clery Act, Drug Free Schools and Communities Act, etc.

  • Knowledge of best practices related to student conduct administration and the evolving needs of community college students.

  • Understands the working relationships and functionality between student support programs (counseling, threat assessment, health & wellness programs, Care Team, etc).

  • Knowledge and understanding of student due process policies and procedures.

  • Experience with student conduct management platforms such as Maxient.

  • Knowledge of the purpose of community colleges and the vision of Dallas College.

  • Experience leading or managing major change initiatives.

  • Knowledge and understanding of student development theory, current issues, and trends in student affairs and student development.

  • Knowledge, understanding, and commitment to the open access policy and philosophy of the comprehensive community college.

  • Knowledge, sensitivity, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of the students we serve.

  • Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume.

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.

  • Ability to delegate work appropriately to meet College and campus deliverables.

  • Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and information to a variety of stakeholders/constituents.

  • Ability to use computer applications and other enterprise systems, including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

  • Ability to meet deadlines, produce quality work products, with detail, clarity, and minimal errors.

  • Ability to collaborate and align efforts vertically and horizontally across the organization to achieve goals.

Physical Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree: Official transcript will be required. Doctorate degree (Preferred).

  • Three (3) years administrative experience in Student Services, and/or Student Development within and academic environment.

  • Three (3) years of experience supervising (e.g., managing, evaluating the performance of others; leading projects or processes).

  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the oversight and management of the Student Rights and Responsibilities office. This includes student conduct operations and student conduct investigatory processes.

  • Responsible for the supervision of the Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities and indirect supervisory responsibility of the Student Conduct Officers across the seven campuses.

  • Supports Dallas College efforts to maintain compliance with laws including but not limited to the Clery Act, FERPA (Family Educational Rights Privacy Act), VAWA (Violence Against Women’s Act), Title IX, Drug Free Schools and Community Act, and other applicable laws.

  • In conjunction with the Student Rights and Responsibilities team, enhance the student Code of Conduct language, definitions, and protocols to reflect a developmental adjudication process.

  • Ensures that the Code of Student Conduct is elucidated to dual credit, continuing education, and student athletes. This will require collaboration with Dual Credit Directors, Athletic Directors, and new student orientation.

  • Serves as a liaison with campus police to implement streamlined incident reporting protocols and no contact order communication and enforcement across the seven campuses.

  • Enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Care Team collaborations when student behavior intersects with multiple offices and identities.

  • Enhance the student disciplinary Hearing processes to ensure effective communication, due process, and appeal timeline is adhered to.

  • Lead special projects that may include policy review, data analysis, and implementation of initiatives to educate the campus community on the Code of Student Conduct.

  • Provides support and resource referrals to students, faculty members, advisors, and family members regarding the student conduct process and institutional policies when applicable.

  • Consults and develops behavioral intervention strategies for the campus community when applicable.

  • Conduct consistent department evaluations to determine how efficient it is running and recommend ideas for improvement, if applicable.

  • Serve as a member of the Student Life Leadership team and be active in the work of ASCA (Association for Student Conduct Administration).

  • Utilize sound assessment methods to ensure data-driven decisions to bring about significant and measurable improvements in services and student experiences.

  • Serve as lead for strategic planning, decision making, budget development and management for assigned area.

  • Create an environment that fosters teamwork, supports learning, recognition, builds community, and is results oriented where students and team members thrive.

  • Reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands and expectations of managing staff members across seven campuses.

  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
