The ideal candidate(s) will possess a strong commitment to innovation in the early childhood landscape. The candidate(s) will also have a strong track record of effective implementation of early childhood programming at both the practitioner and administrative levels.

The Associate Dean of Early Childhood Education (ECE) will work with the Dean of Early Childhood Education to coordinate academic advancement activities within the School of Education associated with the Early Childhood programs, including activities related to early childhood related accreditations, participation in district-wide planning and management activities; enhance and promote the program’s instructional areas, support faculty development, seek and facilitate additional school partnerships, and develop new initiatives to meet emerging needs of the greater Dallas County region.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to institutional effectiveness, program performance management, and be well versed in using data to make program and school level decisions.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The complex role(s) of Associate Dean of Early Childhood Education requires a skilled individual(a) who can both serve and coordinate multiple constituencies. Our work is both internally focused on Dallas College early childhood programming as well as externally focused on community partnerships in the early childhood space.

The Associate Dean(s) must maintain a solid relationship with executive leadership, administrators, faculty, staff, and students to achieve the goals of the department, School, and College, cultivating a positive work environment. They have an advanced knowledge of policies and procedures and adhere to high ethical standards when implementing process and improvements to comply with College guidelines. They also must:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the purpose of community colleges and the vision of Dallas College.

  • Experience in an outcome based, assessment-rich, educational, corporate, or non-profit institution.

  • Must have patience and tolerance for ambiguity and change.

  • Evidence of leadership in the development of new programs that promote success and in building teamwork and a shared vision.

  • Proven successful program management experience with the ability to prioritize assignments and pay attention to detail.

  • An ethical, visible leader who has the ability to develop and maintain a high level of trust and respect throughout the district and the community.

  • Ability to establish and maintain partnerships with internal/external constituents and stakeholders within the Dallas College network community including business, industry, other higher education institutions and community organizations.

  • Must be proficient in the use of quantitative and data to drive systemic and strategic changes that are needed to improve student and faculty experiences within academic programs.

  • Responds appropriately to issues in a dynamic rapidly changing educational/economic environment.

  • Demonstrates ability to work with various departments within Dallas College.

  • Project management experience, including working in a fast-paced environment that require addressing multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Self-directed, with the capacity to design own workflow.

  • Excellent leadership skills, including the ability to delegate effectively.

  • Highly collaborative leader with a proven track record of enhancing academic quality, instructional excellence, and student success.

  • Excellent time management, organizational and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements

Normal physical job functions performed within a standard office environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject matter plus five (5) years of experience in a leadership role including at least three (3) years of leadership experience in program coordination in higher education, early elementary or early childhood space as well as successful experience with program development.

  • Current and valid Texas driver’s license required for offsite travel.

  • Experience managing large grants, including but not limited to grant outcomes, reporting, benchmarks, data collection, and budget projections.

  • Demonstrated success in leading program development or transformation (launch of new programs, redevelopment of existing programs/schools) is also preferred.

  • Openness to both giving and receiving frequent feedback horizontally and vertically while embodying a growth mindset.

  • Official transcript will be required.

  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred.

Key Responsibilities

A knowledgeable, skillful, and innovative leader who will collaboratively manage a complex set of institutional challenges and issues, making difficult decisions focused on moving the School of Education forward in a productive and sustainable way that continues to promote success.

Key responsibilities of this leader include (but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for consulting, planning, developing, and implementing early childhood and early learning programs/activities for the School of Education.

  • Provides leadership, guidance, and direction to various councils such as faculty and committees involved with curriculum development and program performance.

  • Prepares comprehensive analytical reports using quantitative and qualitative data as needed for School of Education leadership.

  • Consults with faculty to evaluate existing activities and discuss areas of improvement for future development and growth.

  • Responding to Additional Requests or Assignments from School of Education leadership.

  • Responsible for bringing multiple departments/ resources together with a unified brand, common policies and procedures, and a united voice with the internal and external community and the Dallas College network.

  • Solves problems by proactively gathering the right data from appropriate sources, probing all facts, considering other perspectives, recommending alternatives or solutions.

  • Builds and maintains effective and constructive working relationships, partnerships, or networks of contacts with people who are, or might be, instrumental in achieving work-related goals.

  • Applies sound project management skills to produce the agreed upon deliverables on time and according to specification.

  • Addresses project scope, objections, and related issues, inter team and interpersonal dynamics and other delivery issues that could impact profitability, feasibility, relationships, etc.

  • Serves as curriculum consultant in program development, providing recommendations on the subject/topics.

  • Researches, analyzes, and maintains information needed for instructional and/or administration purposes, prepares a variety of reports and makes presentations.

  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
