REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Dean of the School of Law.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director will lead the program, and will work closely with faculty, other administrators and students. Job duties include the following:

Program Leadership:

  • Lead a team that may consist of associate directors, adjunct faculty, bar coaches, administrators, and student staff in the delivery of outstanding academic support and bar preparation services for a diverse student population.
  • Coordinate with the Academic Achievement Program.
  • Serve on decanal committees and participate in policymaking.
  • Serve on administrative committees and actively participate in student affairs initiatives.
  • Help communicate in partnership with the Dean program goals and activities to important law school stakeholders, including members of decanal advisory and oversight committees, UM senior administrators, trustees, donors, and other stakeholders.

Bar Exam Preparation and Support:

  • Teach and develop courses, as needed, related to bar success.
  • Provide support and programming for graduates during bar review periods (summer and winter), in the form of workshops, exam simulations, and individual advising.
  • Oversee the presentation and instruction of all other bar-preparation courses and programs, including supervision of adjunct faculty and coordination with commercial vendors.
  • Collect and analyze data related to student populations and the bar exam, to improve program efficacy, and in connection with reporting obligations for the ABA and U.S. News & World Report.
  • Identify best practices at other law schools and related institutions for consideration and incorporation here at Miami Law.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors and partners to achieve best outcomes for bar success.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree with a record of high academic achievement from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Experience in the field of academic support or bar preparation
  • At least 2-3 years of experience teaching in a classroom setting at a law school or other institution of higher education.
  • Excellent oral/written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled at collecting and analyzing data.
  • Knowledge of best practices and developments in the field of law school academic success and bar preparation.
  • Comfortable in a multicultural and diverse student body, with a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges facing the current generation of law students and a viable, thoughtful strategy for addressing them.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience serving as the director of an academic support or bar preparation program.
  • Experience with both academic support and bar exam preparation.
  • Experience preparing students for the Florida bar exam and the Uniform Bar Exam.
  • Active participation in academic support, bar preparation, and student affairs professional organizations.
