The Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science at the University of Miami is seeking to hire a Lecturer and academic coordinator for the Tropical Marine Ecology Track in the RSMAS Master of Professional Science (MPS) program. This MPS track provides students with advanced training in the theoretical aspects of tropical marine ecology, conservation, restoration, and management, as well as the practical aspects needed to begin a career in these fields. The successful candidate will mentor graduate students by serving on or chairing committees, and assisting with internship and post-graduation job placement. The candidate is expected to teach existing graduate courses as well as develop and teach new graduate courses in tropical marine ecology, conservation, restoration, and management, with a strong emphasis in coastal ecosystems (coral reefs, mangroves, seagrasses, marshes). In collaboration with the associate dean and director, the candidate will be expected to keep the track relevant to industry needs and serve as academic coordinator for the Tropical Marine Ecology Track in the MPS program.

A Ph.D. in marine ecology, marine biology, conservation, or closely-related field, and previous research and graduate-level teaching experience in tropical marine biology and ecology are required. Knowledge of key concepts in the field of tropical marine ecology is required. The successful candidate must have well-established professional connections with local, regional, and national academic institutions, NGOs, and government entities.

Applicants must have experience teaching at the University level, providing public presentations and communicating their work to the public through various media. Applicants should have strong communication skills and be familiar with using social media as outreach tools. They should demonstrate that they have previously created and successfully implemented outreach activities based on their own research. Knowledge of key concepts in the field of tropical marine ecology is required.
