Soliant has partnered with a school near Pawtucket, RI, and is seeking a contract Speech-Language Pathology Assistant for this school year.

Requirements to be a Speech Pathology Assistant in a school setting:

  • Applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree in Communications Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology
  • Completed 18 hours of graduate-level credits in classes relating to Communications Disorders
  • Completed 25% of practicum hours required of professional personnel by ASHA
  • All applicants must register with the Rhode Island Board of Examiners for Speech Pathology and Audiology within 30 days of the start of their assignment

The applicant will be working with preschool and elementary age groups, and focusing on children who grow up in Spanish-speaking families.

Scope of duties:

  • Under supervision of a Speech-Language Pathologist, provide direct therapy to students
  • Document student progress and provide administrative support to Speech Pathologists
  • SLPAs may also be called upon to provide classroom support, or to facilitate the provision of online speech services

We seek candidates who:

  • Have some experience with speech therapy with pediatric populations
  • Are culturally aware and able to understand the difference between "Communications Disorders" and "Communications Differences" due to linguistic and socio-cultural contexts
  • Are flexible and adaptable
  • Professional and accountable
  • Bring excellent communication skills
