Essential Duties

The Department of Secondary Education and Educational Leadership (SEEL) invites applications for a full time, temporary one-year faculty position. The successful candidate will work with undergraduate and graduate teacher education students. Teaching responsibility will be in the undergraduate Secondary Education major and graduate Education Masters Core (EDMC) program. The successful candidate will model effective practices relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Other responsibilities may include academic advising and practicum supervision in the department's teacher licensure programs.

Undergraduate courses may include but are not limited to: Introduction to Teaching Secondary School; Adolescent Development for Middle/High School Teachers; Learning, Motivation & Teaching; Teaching Literacy in the Content Areas. Graduate courses may include but are not limited to: Teacher as Researcher; Teacher as Leader.

The successful applicant will collaborate with departmental faculty and engage with College of Education & Health Studies colleagues and other internal and external partners on the assessment, refinement, and expansion of existing programs. This position requires regularly scheduled office hours for student consultation. Additional responsibilities may include advising, recruiting, mentoring graduate students and other related duties as assigned and/or required.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Education or closely related discipline from an accredited university.

Documented coursework highly relevant to middle and high school teacher education. Successful applicants must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position as a condition of employment.

Minimum three to five years of experience teaching middle and/or high school.

Experience teaching courses in teacher education at the college/university level.

Demonstrated ability to design and teach online and incorporate technology use into student learning.

Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and advising; to working in a university community that embraces diversity, equity inclusion and multiple perspectives; and to excellence in PreK-12 public education for all.

Effective interpersonal, collaboration, and oral and written communication skills with students and colleagues, including those from diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic and economic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference given to individuals with:

Earned PhD or Ed.D. in Education or closely related discipline from an accredited university.

Content knowledge and teaching experience in middle/high school social studies and history OR professional knowledge and experience in adolescent development.

Demonstrated experience in MA state education and/or other accreditation, standards and assessment.

Evidence of scholarly activity and contribution to the content of the discipline.

Experience supervising practicum students.

Experience teaching graduate education courses, including research methods.
