The Office of Financial Management (AFM) provides financial oversight and information on the use of agency financial resources, establishes financial system requirements, and prepares the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the annual financial audit. Also, the AFM controls property capitalization and reporting, along with preparing the agency’s audited financial statements and Performance & Accountability Report. The position will serve as the Accountant (Gateway) within one of the divisions of the AFM.
The Accountant (Gateway) performs basic but progressively more difficult assignments under the close direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader or more experience professional within one of the AFM divisions. Typically acts as member of the team for projects/programs within defined assignments area of responsibility.
Applies basic knowledge applicable to accounting and financial management with limited experience to accomplish assignments. Collects, gathers, and extracts financial information to support the formulation of budget requests and consolidates a variety of narrative information and financial or statistical data; and provides data to aid in the preparation of reports.
As a member of a team, assists more experience accountants in the development of materials that communicate and present quantitative and qualitative analyses, and results and findings to key stakeholders, including FAA of executives. Assists the team with the monitoring and tracking of the execution of financial plans. Assists in developing financial models for use in financial or statistical analysis and forecasting through the recording and collection of data. Performs other work in support of the day-to-day budget and financial management functions.
Coordinates with a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced professional to plan time and use assigned resources to accomplish tasks. Conducts research related to financial legislation and applies policies and procedures identify problems on FAA appropriations.
Contacts are primarily internal to the organizational unit with a manager and other employees to share information, provide data and/or written analyses and discuss the statuses of assignments. In some specialties, may have contact with customers and other external parties on routine matters such as gathering information, explaining financial guidance, and discussing customer requirements.
Established policies/procedures provide detailed guidance for almost all assignments, with little or no room for discretion. Works under detailed instructions provided by a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced professional. Regularly refers problems and work issues to a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced professional for guidance.
Work is reviewed regularly during assignments and at completion to the ensure timeliness all aspects of quality. Work activities typically support the work of other employees and contribute to activities of the organizational level.
