The Associate Director of Compliance will be responsible for overseeing and confirming the company's compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards within the pharmaceutical and life sciences sector. This role is for a new service line within the Optum network and will play a critical part in establishing and maintaining a culture of compliance throughout the organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive compliance program that aligns with applicable state and federal laws, regulations, for both the pharmaceutical and wholesaler industry
  • Establish, mandate and implement standard policies, procedures and best practices across the company to promote compliance with applicable laws and contractual obligations
  • Collaborate with other compliance professionals and cross-functional teams to ensure regulatory and contractual requirements are met and integrated into business processes
  • Monitor and assess the company's compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry requirements, including wholesaler and 3PL arrangements, government price reporting, pharmacovigilance requirements, Physician Payments Sunshine Act, and PhRMA code
  • Evaluate audits and risk assessment outcomes to identify compliance gaps and develop strategies to mitigate risk including additional training as needed
  • Respond to reported compliance issues and develop/facilitate corrective actions and mitigation as necessary
  • Develop/implement/facilitate compliance communications, trainings and compliance standards, policies, procedures and codes of conduct
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including senior management, legal counsel, people teams and external vendors
  • This role requires a unique ability to develop relationships, analyze information and influence multiple stakeholders to increase engagement and get the needed results. You will be working in a matrixed environment with multiple groups while ensuring that resources are used effectively

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in compliance roles within the pharmacy, pharmaceutical or wholesaler industry
  • 5+ years of experience with state, HIPAA and other federal privacy laws
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing compliance programs and policies
  • Proven solid communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate complex compliance concepts to non-compliance professionals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certifications in compliance or regulatory affairs (e.g., RAC)
  • 5+ years of experience in operations, compliance or related roles within the pharmaceutical industry
  • 5+ years of experience working in a government, legal, healthcare, managed care and/or health insurance environment in a regulatory, privacy or compliance role
  • In-depth knowledge of FDA regulations, EMA guidelines, and other relevant regulatory requirements applicable to pharmaceutical manufacturing, distribution, sales, and marketing

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
