Position Highlights
The UArizona College of Health Sciences (COHS) is seeking an Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Inclusion. Reporting to the Dean of the UArizona COHS, this position serves as a critical member of the Dean’s Executive Team. Given the COHS is a new college, this is an exciting opportunity to create new programs and shape the direction of faculty affairs, faculty development and inclusion for years to come. The COHS includes Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, Clinical Translational Sciences and Genetic Counseling Graduate Programs and a developing international medical education program.
This position is responsible for the oversight of faculty policies and programs and provides overall leadership and support to the faculty. This position facilitates and fosters faculty engagement, vitality, and development to attract and retain high-caliber, diverse faculty consistent with the academic mission of the COHS. The successful candidate obtains and allocates necessary resources to support faculty affairs, faculty development and inclusion related to programming. The successful candidate will ensure quality, compliance with accreditation standards, and be responsive to the needs of the faculty at the COHS.
The associate dean must be eligible for a faculty appointment. The effort for this position will range from 0.80-1.0 FTE, which will be determined at the time of hire. If determined to be under 1.0 FTE the candidate may have the opportunity to couple their Associate Dean FTE with an additional or current responsibility.

Duties & Responsibilities
Oversee programs that promote faculty experience and professional development, leadership development, and mentoring opportunities for faculty. This includes development and delivery of orientation programs, ongoing opportunities, educational meetings, and the implementation of programs to recognize and honor faculty.
Oversee the process of faculty actions (e.g., appointments, promotions, tenure, non-tenure volunteer faculty, sabbatical, and leave requests), including guiding a faculty-led promotion and tenure committee. This includes oversight of faculty appeals processes related to promotion and tenure decisions as well as decisions related to misconduct and assisting with the resolution of faculty grievances.
Organizes, supervises and prioritizes Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development office workload. Maintains communication and collaboration between Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development, Finance, Human Resources, and Provost's office.
Provides Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development office representation on college wide faculty committees, and provides guidance to deans, department chairs and faculty for recruitment, academic performance reviews, retention, budget, timelines, policies, and performance evaluation tools.
Develop a faculty development program that could be utilized by various stakeholders throughout the State of Arizona. The program should offer continuing medical education (CME) credit.
Develop and implement instructional development, including assisting faculty in integrating technology in learning/teaching experiences.
Lead and oversee the implementation of the school’s educational governance structure and provide ongoing support and review of this structure.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders both in the United States and internationally.
Develop resources and materials for faculty on a continuing basis to guide teaching and/or assessment practices.
Serve as an available resource to clinical teaching faculty and other instructors, both virtually and in person.
Manage the scheduled periodic reviews of faculty including the five-year administrative review process for all department chair and center directors at the COHS.
Develop and lead initiatives supporting the recruitment, retention, and development of faculty to foster a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.
Provide search committee orientation training keeping them up to date with institutional (and national) recruitment policies including unconscious bias training.
Lead efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion of faculty, including overseeing efforts to diversify COHS faculty, and supporting programs and initiatives that advance COHS faculty diversity goals.
Plan, guide, and oversee streamlined processes for communicating faculty affairs priorities, standards and activities across the college to foster awareness of and engagement with the faculty affairs program.
Guide efforts to maximize alignment across units, including leading and supporting efforts to share ‘best practices’ in a growing college.
Develop strategies to periodically assess faculty interests and faculty professional development needs, including assessing the current state of mentoring. Use this information to inform existing and future programming.
Ensure a transparent and equitable process for Standing Committee Elections and Faculty Awards/Recognition.
Review program operations and implementation of the COHS policies to ensure the program and policies achieve goals.
Supervises and assesses database needs and process flow for the office and supervises preparation of all faculty affairs, faculty development and inclusion reporting for credentialing bodies in coordination with the COHS Assistant Dean for Information Technology.
Overall management, planning, and budgetary responsibility for the office.
Develop relevant reports and metrics to measure and monitor the impact of faculty professional development programs.
Oversee UA Vitae for all College affiliated faculty.
Other duties assigned by the COHS Dean.
