Summary

Duties

The incumbent serves as a full-time staff psychologist within the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center's Mental Health Service Line (JBVA MHSL), Chicago, IL, and is assigned to one of the following community based outpatient clinics (CBOC): the Adam Benjamin, Jr. (CBOC) in Crown Point, Indiana, the Auburn Gresham (CBOC) in Chicago, IL, or the Lakeside (CBOC) in Chicago, IL. The incumbent reports directly to the Program Manager, CBOC Outpatient Mental Health. All positions provide the full spectrum of psychological services to Veterans with the position serving the Auburn Gresham CBOC having a focus on trauma.

Major Duties:

Clinical Responsibilities:

-Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services, including clinical assessment, and uses the most appropriate techniques in providing quality care to Veterans.
-Provides a full range of patient-centered, recovery-oriented therapeutic interventions, with an emphasis on delivering efficient, evidence-based therapeutic interventions to individuals, couples, family members, and groups.
-Engages in routine outcomes monitoring of patients assigned.
-Conducts structured clinical interviews, provides comprehensive intake assessments and crisis interventions, completes mental health and addiction screenings, clinical reminders, evaluates Veterans for suicidal and homicidal ideation, plan, and behavior, provides diagnoses, develops and refines treatment plans, and ensures that Veterans are linked to appropriate treatments in a timely fashion. Services are provided in-person and through the use of tele-health technologies, as appropriate.
-Provides clinical care coordination and case management of patients assigned.
-Ensures that all clinical work is documented accurately and in a timely fashion, consistent with the MHSL and facility expectations and policies.
-Provides clinical consultation to peers, supervisors, and hospital staff on a wide variety of patient care issues.
-May be assigned to any program area, and may be involved in program evaluation, teaching, training, and/or research activities.

Academic/Teaching/Training:
-Involved in the Psychology Training Program and Training Committee, and may provide clinical supervision to psychology trainees at all levels of training.
-Provides education and consultation to staff of area(s) or program(s) to which the incumbent is assigned.
-Participates in and provides educational presentations to VA psychology trainees.
-Participates in the training of medical students, medical and psychiatric residents, nursing students, fellows, and other graduate or post-graduate trainees, as appropriate.
-Serve as a consultant to other hospital staff and trainees and assist in their formulation of the psychological characteristics and appropriate treatment expectations regarding their patients.
-Assumes responsibility for professional development by attending relevant training and regularly reviewing the literature to improve clinical competencies and meeting professional continuing education requirements to maintain competence and licensure.

Research/Program Evaluation:
-Oversee the establishment of program monitors and outcome measurements within programs assigned using a data-driven quality assurance process.
-Plans and oversees the completion of personal research programs designed to provide information regarding program planning and relevant treatment approaches.
-Presents outcome data and research results at VA, regional, or national scientific or professional meetings.
-Assist in preparation of RPF's and grant proposals, as assigned.

Other Significant Responsibility:
-Participates in the process of hiring staff and selecting trainees, including reviewing applications and interviewing applicants.
-May serve on Hospital or Healthcare System, VISN, and/or National VA committees or task forces.
-Actively participates in leadership roles within local, state, and/or national professional organizations.
-Completes all mandatory training as required of all staff at the Medical Center and within VA.
-Attends regular team and CBOC staff meetings, monthly Psychology Service and MHSL staff meetings, Psychology Training Committee meetings, and other relevant meetings, as necessary.
-Performs other related professional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:30pm
