About the Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR):

The Indiana Department of Revenue team has over 700 staff members from 13 locations across Indiana. We work collaboratively with the Indiana Governor's office, the General Assembly, state agencies, individuals, business owners, corporations, tax practitioners, and tax program participants to administer Indiana's tax laws.  DOR administers over 65 tax types and annually processes nearly $21 billion of tax revenue.  Our mission is to serve Indiana by administering tax laws fairly, securely, and efficiently.

Salary:

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $75,010.  Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.
 

Role Overview:

The Assistant Director of Business Systems Support will provide leadership and oversight to some growing and critical functions within the Department of Revenue while also managing agency-wide special projects.  You will directly lead two electronic services teams: one focused on our tax filing vendor certification and imaging production testing and support, while the other is focused on bulk tax filing support and data exchange support.  You will also oversee enterprise-wide projects such as annual legislative implementation and annual changes for individual income tax filing season.  This role resides on the operations side of the agency rather than the IT side of the agency.  

The ideal candidate will have leadership skills and experience in project management, operations, and process improvement.  This position is eligible for hybrid work after an initial onboarding period.
 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are:

-Review and evaluate organizational effectiveness, goal determination, and strategic planning, etc., making recommendations for improvement.
-Assist the Director with developing and coordinating plans and policies, resources, and mission as well as goals, vision, and expectations of the agency or program.
-Guide agencies and the public regarding applicable laws and rules.
-Supervise subordinate personnel including hiring, determining workload, and authorizing assignments, training, monitoring, and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary action.
-Assist with monitoring agency or program budget including revenues, expenditures, and budget projections.
-Communicate with news and other media and respond to media questions or requests in an appropriate public relations manner.
-Coordinate with other government officials on planning issues. 
-Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
-Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees.  Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
