Job Description:
Student Support and Advising

Meeting with J.D, LL.M, and transfer students to provide support and guidance to students experiencing personal and academic challenges. Working on complicated and sensitive situations that require collaboration with faculty and other administrative offices. Providing student organization and co-curricular support through training sessions and strategic planning. Advising topics may include strategic event planning, student event funding, course selection and degree requirements, long-range academic plans and goals, as well as non-academic factors affecting academic performance.

Strategic Event Support and Execution

Directing orientation and graduation programming, as well as creating and executing other large- and small-scale student focused events. Events will focus on enhancing the student experience and fostering a sense of community.

Student Outreach

Identifying students in need of additional support and providing information to current law students to enhance opportunities to maximize their law school experience. Advising will include regular group and one-on-one meetings with law students.

The Levin College of Law is growing and changing daily. All College of Law community members are expected to perform other duties as assigned in furtherance of our strategic goals.

Expected Salary:
90,000

Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree in education, counseling, or an academic field directly related to the assistant director’s area of responsibility; or a bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or an academic field directly related to the advisor’s area of responsibility and one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Juris Doctor and legal practice experience of at least five years or equivalent knowledge. Two or more years of experience advising law students.

Strong emotional intelligence and listening skills, as evidenced by training in education, counseling, or mental health; a record of pro bono work with vulnerable populations; or other professional development training.

Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to counsel one-on-one, to lead large group programs, and to develop website and printed material for both students and faculty members.
The ability to use and refine electronic databases to monitor student progress.

A proven track record of creative problem-solving and success working in a team environment.
